If I Could Turn Back Time..

Wednesday, March 27, 2013
I've seen a few bloggers/youtubers doing the 'what would you tell your younger self, if you could' tag and thought I would add something to the mix. I can't believe how much has changed since then. At 15 you think you know everything there is to know about everything. How wrong was I.

Dear 15 year old Rachael,

Please try harder at school. I know you want to be hanging out with friends, playing sims and wasting your hours on MSN. You won't regret it, but you'll wish you had tried.

Nothing is as bad as you think it is. I know right now it feels like everything is falling apart around you, but it isn't. You're going to be fine. More than fine. Don't take life to seriously, you are only young once. Make the most of it. You won't be 15 forever.
That boy you are so hung up on, who you feel inferior to? DON'T. You think the world begins and ends with him? It doesn't. You're going to let him change you, and you shouldn't. You'll look back on your time with him and parts will be great, parts will be the worst. You should NEVER let a boy define you. You think that the shit he puts you through is worth it, because the good parts are the best? It isn't. You always deserve the best. Every time.

Always be yourself. In a few years you'll look back and not recognize the shy, insecure quiet girl you were. Your friends are the greatest and bring out the best in you, just don't let other people stop that. The girls who thought and act like they are better than you..aren't. In a few years they'll be screaming your name in a club, running over to give you a hug. They never were worth it.

Don't wear your heart on your sleeve and don't trust everyone. Not everyone is nice to everyone. Don't be so trusting, it will only come round to bite you on the ass.

Appreciate the people around you more. They won't always be here. You'll lose someone and it will hurt like hell. You'll have so many regrets. Things you wish you could change.

Your mum is the best. You many not realize it now, you know what's best? Wrong. Your mum is the greatest. Love & value her everyday. No matter how much she moans and nags. You'll grow into a better person because of her.

Your future is going to be great. You'll meet amazing new friends, you'll experience amazing things, you'll travel to places you never thought possible.

You are so so lucky, don't ever forget it. The best is yet to come.

 Love, Future Rachael xx

Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush | Review

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

I received this in my March Glossybox, and looking at it, I didn't really think much of it. I gave it a bash anyway before I wrote it off completely, and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised.
It describes this 'Lip Blush' as a moisturizing lip stain.
It is really creamy, glides on to the lips without clinging onto any dry areas and feels really hydrating. It just melts into the lips without feeling to sticky or glunky (is that even a word..?! Well it is now). It's made with beeswax and ceresin wax, which gives it the silky smooth texture.
It's really pigmented and is a lovely cherry red colour.

The staying power is really impressive, as a 'stain' you expect it to last a good while, but this actually does! I wore it out shopping recently and it lasted about 8+ hours. Only coming off when I removed my make up that night. I didn't realize until a few hours after trying this product that if you screw the silver end, it releases more product. Which I was pretty impressed with. It's the little things ;)

Candle Jar to Lipstick Holder | DIY

Sunday, March 24, 2013

After yet another candle has burnt until it can't burn anymore, I decided enough was enough. I was no longer throwing away the lovely glass containers they come in, and would do my part for the planet and recycle them into some sort of home for some sort of make up.

After the candle had completely died *sob*, I pull the wick that is left out, which is very easy to do! I then strike a match and put it into the glass holder, and wait for the remaining wax to melt. After it has melted, I tip it down the sink. I use kitchen roll or a damp cloth to clean inside the candle holder. VOILA!

I use mine to store my MAC lipsticks and also my favourite Topshop shade. I've since done this with another candle and it holds all my eye products, e.g. eyeliner and mascara.

Since doing this, I now buy candles with a lovely glass holder, just for the reason of 'Oh, I can recycle this when it is burnt out!' so no doubt in a few months, I will have recycled candle holders EVERYWHERE. I suppose that gives me no excuse for my dressing table to be messy. Maybe I will give them away as gifts..
Just to help my candle buying/recycling habit...

Art Attack/Smart/Blue Peter I blame you.

MAC Sunny Seoul | Review

Friday, March 22, 2013

This lipstick is summer in a sleek bullet shaped packaging!! I love nothing more than a lovely bright summer worthy lip, coral pinks, orange and neon pink are my go to summer shades.

On a recent trip to the MAC counter in Selfridges, I headed, as usual, to the lipstick stand. It was inevitable really. I can't stay away from the little buggers. The packaging and gorgeous smell draws me in. Yummy vanilla scented lipstick. Damn, so good.

Anyway, my nose is running away with me..
I swatched a whole load of lipsticks, but they were either 'meh' nothing special or something similar to what I already had. However, when I swatched Sunny Seoul I knew I had found my new favourite summer shade!!
Described as a 'Frosted light warm pink' it is absolutely gorgeous! I love the cremesheen formula, it glides onto your lips and has a nice glossy shine to it, without being tacky. It doesn't cling to dry patches on my lips and feels hydrating on the lips.

It has a semi opaque colour coverage, but with a few applications you get a good solid colour. It also has white shimmers, which aren't obvious unless you look really closely, but I think it adds a little bit more to the lipstick ;)

It is a gorgeous peachy pink/coral colour, perfect for summer, and lasts about 3-4 hours on me. I think that is pretty acceptable for a lipstick!

Let me know your favourite summer shades! It will be a great excuse for me to buy some more ;)

Confessions of a blogger | Tag

Thursday, March 21, 2013

I've noticed this tag hovering around the blog world for quite a while now and always enjoyed reading them. So I thought i'd give it a bash myself!

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in May 2012, so almost a year ago now!! I can't believe how quick it has gone.
I was so nervous about writing my first post, but it's one of the best things i've done.

Have you had any past online presence before (other blog, youtube)?

Never, my online contribution consisted of facebook and twitter.

Why did you start a blog?

I've always enjoyed reading other blogs, mainly beauty & after reading those for a few months, I decided i'd give a go at it myself. Beauty is always something that has interested me, so it made sense for me to start my own beauty blog.

When did you become serious about starting a blog?

About 4-5 months into blogging, I realised how much I loved it and enjoyed doing it! I don't take it to seriously as the whole point of starting my blog was for fun. I don't ever want to take the fun out of blogging.

What was your first post?

A kind of 'Welcome to my new blog' sort of post. It wasn't anything special. I hate looking back at old posts.

What has been your biggest challenge about blogging?

For me it has probably been finding the time to sit down and write! Juggling work/blogging/friends/family can be crazy, but now I make sure I set one day a week to write & schedule about 3-4 posts (a weeks worth). Also keeping up with all the latest beauty products can be hard. New products are coming out everyday and you always want to give them a go. My bank balance has never been the same since starting a blog.

Where do you see your blog in one year?

Hopefully i'll still be enjoying bogging!! I also hope my blog continues to grow and develop. I'd also love to new posts, not all involving beauty. Maybe more lifestyle posts.

What is the most rewarding thing to you about blogging?

Hearing feedback, I love nothing more than reading lovely comments on my posts. Also meeting so many lovely bloggers via twitters #bbloggers chat!

What is the most discouraging thing that happens to you?

I've never really had any negative or discouraging comments/feedback. Everyone has always been really lovely. Luckily. I do hate the bitchy side to blogging, some of the other girls have had quite negative/horrible comments on their blogs & youtube.

What's your lasting inspiration or motivation?

My inspiration is definitely other bloggers and also new products can inspire me. Buying a new product and having that 'I'm not going to use you until I have photographed you' feeling!!' My motivation is definitely my followers/readers, after a long week the last thing you can feel like doing is editing photos and writing posts. My readers however, with so many lovely comments, make it worth while.

Topshop Cream Blush | Review

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

I've wanted to try a cream blush for a while now, i've always gone for powder blushes and as much as I love them, I figured it was time for a change.

I absolutely love Topshop make up, their lipsticks, highlighters, nail varnishes and now..their cream blushes!!
Whilst browsing their make up section, a flash of bright neon pink caught my eye.
I instantly walked over to the blush section and swatched this on my hand, Once blended into my hand, it left a gorgeous rosy pink colour. For £6, I couldn't really complain!

I'm a sucker for Topshop packaging, it's simple yet so cute with lovely polka dots on the majority of products. This was no exception, it even comes with a little compact mirror in the lid.

As soon as I got home, I took plenty of photos, ready for this post ;) and waited for the opportunity to wear this gorgeous blush. A few nights later, I was going to the pub to meet some friends, and when it came to applying blush, I applied this without hesitation. I picked up the shade 'Prime Time' it looks quite scary in the packaging, neon pink, but once applied and blended in it leaves a lovely sheer, dewy rose colour to your cheeks. It is super pigmented and the product is amazingly creamy and just melts into the skin, it is also so easy to blend in. I use the RT Stippling Brush, which does the job perfectly. It leaves your blush looking flawless!

I can't recommend this blush enough and will definitely be repurchasing.

Real Techniques Stippling Brush | Review

Monday, March 18, 2013

Hello Lovelies!

As I mentioned in my Beauty Haul post here, I picked up this brush to use with my new cream blush. I wanted something that would help to blend the product in and create a flawless, smooth finish. Well look no further than the Real Techniques Stippling Brush!

I already owned the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, which I absolutely love & I use it everytime I apply my base, whether it be tinted moisturiser or foundation. As soon as I knew I wanted a brush for cream blusher, I didn't hesitate in knowing I wanted a Real Techniques Brush.
I'd read reviews online about the brushes, and researched which would be the best to use with cream blush.
After reading up on the Stippling Brush, described on the Real Techniques website as "Dual-Fiber brush is the trade secret for creating air-brushed, high definition results with all types of make up:
  • Look pixel perfect even in harsh light.
  • ultra plush, synthetic taklon bristles are hand cut and 100% cruelty free.
  • Self standing for easy storage.
  • Extended aluminium handle is light and easy to use.
I knew it sounded like the perfect brush.

As soon as I found the right cream blush, I headed straight over to Boots to pick this up. As soon as I got it home, after photographing it of course ;), I took it out of it's packaging and stroked the bristles. Yes that may sound strange, but i'm sure everyone who owns one of these brushes, knows how damn soft the bristles are!! I could just sit and stroke them all day. It also helps that the brushes are so damn pretty!

Just a dab of this in my blusher, picks up just the right amount of product to create a flawless, dewy blush. I was so worried that I would end up with doll like, big blob of pink in the centre of my cheeks.. I didn't need to worry about this at all, this brush is amazing at blending the product in! It is honestly the best £11.99 i've ever spent, so worth the money. Boots regularly have an offer on, were you "buy one and get another one half price".
I have my eyes on the blush, contour and powder brushes next! You can never own to many RT brushes ;)

Avon Eyeshadow Primer | Review

Saturday, March 16, 2013

Why, oh why did my friend have to start being a Avon representative?!!
I have never owned a eyeshadow primer, so when I spotted this whilst flicking through the Avon catalogue, I added it to my order list. I picked this up on a complete whim, not having heard or read anything about it. It only comes in the shade 'Light Beige' which is perfect for me.

I don't have any other primers to compare it to, but this product is amazing. It is so soft and creamy and creates a smooth even finish on the lid. I apply it using my finger, and it is so blend-able, a little product goes a long way.

I applied 2 of my Urban Decay Naked eyeshadows on top and although they are really pigmented, this primer makes the colours stand out even more! It holds the eyeshadow really well and also eye liner, after a few hours eyeliner normally melts/runs off, but with this primer, it lasted all night.

For the £4 that I paid, I couldn't really go wrong, and although I wasn't expecting much.. i'm really impressed with this product and will definitely repurchase.

Beauty Haul; MAC, Topshop & Boots

Friday, March 15, 2013

On a recent trip to Trafford Centre, I did the inevitable and went to the MAC counter in Selfridges, looking for yet another lipstick. As if I don't have enough! I wanted a lovely summer colour, so as soon as I swatched this pearly pink coral shade, I knew it was perfect. I can see this soon becoming my go to summer shade.

I am a sucker for Topshop make up, and this blusher has just made me love their collection even more. I opted for this bright pink shade, it is gorgeous! Very pigmented but so soft and creamy. I will definitely keep my eyes out for other shades.

I had heard great things about the gel effect Barry M nail polishes, so when I went into my local boots, I picked up this gorgeous green/turquoise shade. 2 coats of this and it has a lovely smooth glossy finish. Definitely the first shade of many from the Hi-Shine range.

I picked up this brush after buying the cream blush from Topshop. I didn't really want to blend it in with my fingers, so I thought what better excuse to buy a new brush?! I love the Real technique brushes and this has been the perfect new addition to my brush collection.

I actually wanted to pick up the Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo, when me and my mum visited Glasgow, however it wasn't in stock anywhere! So I ended up picking it up from Manchester instead. My hair is in need of some serious detox, strip all the crap, pardon my french, out if it. I can't wait to give this a go!

Full reviews will be coming up on all of these products soon!

Clothing Haul; River Island; Primark & Miss Selfridges

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

A week before a payday, I torment myself by scouring online at websites that contain products/clothes I can not afford until payday the following week. The week leading up to payday always feels like the longest week ever! I go to Mexico in June, so I think it is about time the annual summer holiday shopping began!

River Island:

As soon as payday came, I made a cheeky online River Island order, as you do. I love River Island, especially during the summer months. They do gorgeous clothes, bikinis and accessories.

As soon as I saw this bikini, I knew I had to add it to my collection. I love buying new bikinis.. they are a major part of my holiday shopping. I loved the navy and shimmery orange stripes on this, the top also came with a halterneck strap attached, but I never really use them, as I don't really like strap marks. I can never get rid of them! It also came with the gold RI logo.

I love comfy tank tops, and also love the colour of this! Love the curved hem and sleeveless design. It is very loose, perfect for the warm days. I'll team this with my denim shorts, straw trilby and my rose gold spiked statement necklace for a laid back evening look on holiday.

I first noticed this tank top in Glasgow, but I held back and put it back on the rack, strong I know!! However, when I got home, I added it to my online basket. It is a gorgeous white tank with lace panels.
It fastens with large white buttons, all up the back on the top. I think it will add a lovely girly edge, revealing just a few flashes on skin.

I don't really own any simple stud earrings, so when I noticed these for £1.50, I couldn't really moan. I picked up some simple gold tone cross and peace signs studs.

Crochet Kaftan £7.

I am after some cover ups for on holiday, things just to throw over my bikini. So when I noticed this coral kaftan/dress, I popped it into my basket. It is really light and I love the gorgeous print. I thought it was quite a bargain for £7 and it doesn't feel cheap! It tightens at the waist with a rope fastening which has off white and gold beads at the end.

Flip-Flops £1

I always pick up a pair of cheap Primark flip flops for by the pool on the holiday, they just get wet and grubby, so for a £1 I can't grumble and they just go in the bin when our holiday is over. I thought these were quite funky with the different coloured aztec print.

Debenhams/Miss Selfridge:

My brother got me a £20 Debenhams voucher for Christmas, and whilst my thought was to rush to the make up counters, obviously, I decided to opt for some clothing for my holiday. Whilst on a trip to Trafford Centre with Aaron, we popped into Debenhams where I knew they had a Miss Selfridge counter. As soon as I saw these shorts, I knew I had to have them. With the gorgeous cream crochet hem and distressed patches on the denim, they'll look great on holiday with a bit of a tan. Debenhams actually has 20% off when I went in, so I got them for £25.60, so with my voucher I actually only had to pay £5.60, not bad for a lovely pair of shorts!!

MAC Pink Nouveau | Review

Monday, March 11, 2013

I picked this beauty up in Glasgow and although I picked it up on a whim, It has soon become one of my favourite lipsticks!!

I opted for this shade as it is a brighter colour than I would usually go for but it isn't too in your face. It is a blue toned bright medium pink colour with a Satin finish. It glides on really easily and feels moistursing on my lips, leaving a nice gloss behind. On me, it looks quite a barbie pink, not neon, but very bright.

It lasts about 4-5 hours on the lips, at that is with drinking & eating, which is great! MAC lipsticks are fab for lasting, without the colour wearing off to much. Although when it does start to wear off, that is when I notice the drying effects and it does tend to cling to dry areas on my lips.

Pink Nouveau adds a gorgeous pop of colour, and though it is quite a bold daring shade, it is also great for an everyday look.

The swatch on my hand is from one swipe, so you can see how highly pigmented it is!

I am a sucker for MAC lipsticks, and my collection is ever growing. At £14, it is quite pricey compared to some brands, but also a lot cheaper than other high end brands I have looked at. I however think for the gorgeous range of colours, the sleek packaging, the gorgeous vanilla scent and lasting power, it is definitely worth the price tag!!

Soap & Glory: Sugar Crush Body Buttercream| Review

Saturday, March 09, 2013

I've never been the best person at applying body lotions or creams after a shower/bath. I find it to time consuming, having to apply it & wait for them to sink in to my skin. However...

After hearing so many rave reviews about the Soap & Glory Sugar Crush collection, when I popped into Boots and found this product, I couldn't help but smell this product and see what all the hype was about..
Holy Cow..
It is frickin' delicious!

It has a gorgeous citrus smell, like lemon cheesecake..or key lime pie. Some sort of delicious dessert anyway, without being too sickly sweet.
The body cream itself is super rich and sinks in quickly, it leaves skin feeling really hydrated and smooth. It has a very thick consistency so if you aren't a fan, I would opt for the body lotion instead. It is extremely moisturising and has really given my skin a boost during the colder months, as my skin can get quite dry.

Although it is a tad pricey, a little product goes along way, so I can see this tub lasting for quite a while.
I knew as soon as I smelt it, that I was going to love this product and it hasn't let me down, the scent lingers on your skin for a good 3-4 hours, which I think is great, seen as it smells so amazing! I find myself sniffing my arm hours later, just to get a whiff of all that delicious goodness!

I would definitely recommend this product, just for the scent alone! It's the little things ;) I am a huge fan of so many Soap & Glory products, and this has product has just made me love them even more!
Whoever came up with this wonderful scent, myself & many other people I am sure, are eternally grateful!

Makeup Starter Kit & Tips.

Friday, March 08, 2013
I started wearing makeup towards the end of High School, maybe year 10? It wasn't something that really interested me, and always found wearing makeup quite a bold daring move. 6 years later and i'm an addict.. I got into make up more seriously when starting college, loved trying new products and holding the bag handles of a lovely new purchase. Blogging has developed my addiction more, although now I research products a lot more before buying. I love to treat myself to high end make up brands once in a while, I work hard for my money & feel I deserve a little luxury, but I am a sucker for drugstore brands. The 3-for-2 deals in Boots & Superdrug are just too good to pass up. I think my favourite drugstore brand is definitely Rimmel.

Although I have been wearing make up for years, a lot of you will just be starting out (you lucky devils!) so I thought I would give my input on great drugstore brands, perfect for people that are just starting their collection and are after advice & maybe a few tips.

Firstly, we'll start with bases..

Foundation: £8.99
Powder: £3.99
Concealer: 5.49

There products are ones that I use on a regular basis and love! The foundation blends so well into the skin, whether you use a brush (I'll get onto that later) or your fingers. This foundation leaves skin looking really fresh and glowing, it has medium coverage, which is great as heavy coverage foundation can sometimes look cakey when not blended in properly.

The Powder is great for helping your foundation/base last longer on your face, and also great for touching up any areas on your face that tend to get oily. I have used this powder on its own once or twice, when I needed a quick cover up of a few spots I was having trouble with, and it gives a low to medium coverage and it doesn't cake which I thought was great, as I have had problems with powders in the past.

I would recommend picking up this concealer in a shade lighter than your skin, as this product is great for under eye circles, helping to mask any dark circles from early mornings, getting ready for school/college.
This is definitely my favourite concealer as it leaves my eyes looking really fresh and awake! It applies and blends into the skin really easily.

Blusher; Shade 2: £1
Eyeshadow Trio; Pink Sorbet: £2.50
Mascara: £5.99

MUA is an amazing drugstore brand! It's products are great quality and unbeatable prices.
The blusher is so pigmented that a little will go a long way, it leaves cheeks with a subtle pink glow. For a £1 you can't really go wrong!

The eyeshadow trio is incredible value for money! You can use the colours on their own or even create a subtle smokey eye look. The colours are really pigmented and really brighten with eyes, without being to in your face.

I picked up this mascara on a whim, as I was in desperate need for a new one. I was pleasantly surprised when first tried it and was very impressed. It left my lashes longer & thicker, without weighing them down and going dry/flaky. I wouldn't say they leave my lashes looking 'fake' but they do leave them looking more defined.

Kohl Eyeliner: £3.99
Liquid Eyeliner: £4.29
Eyelash Curlers: £6.00

This kohl eyeliner is great for waking up your eyes and helping them to subtly stand out. I use this on my lower lash line, and with it being so highly pigmented, one glide of this on my lash line & it creates a defined line.

If you are feeling a little more adventurous and have a steady hand, then liquid eye liner is great! I use this on my upper lid, above my lashes. If you are wearing this for school, I would suggest creating just a thin little slick, as you don't want to apply a thick application that during the school hours would no doubt smudge and leave you with a panda look. Which is something, from experience, I know you won't want to end up with. Oh the horror of applying liquid eyeliner for the first time!!

Eye lash curlers are an essential I would say. If you aren't to bothered about applying mascara, I would suggest giving your eye lashes a quick go with a curler, to help shape your eye lashes. Just curling your eyelashes can open up your eyes and help them seem more awake.

Lipstick; Shade 101: £5.49

Kate Moss's Rimmel lipstick collection, is great! I have quite a few and love them all. This particular colour is like your lip colour, but better! It is a matte shade so can cling to the dry areas of your lips, so make sure to prep your lips before with a scrub or the old toothbrush trick ;)

5 piece set; £10.00
  • Powder Brush
  • Lip Brush
  • Eyeshadow Brush
  • Angled Brush
  • Blending Brush

This kit contains very handy brushes, that come in a little travel sized bag, so you can carry them around easily. These brushes will cover the basics of what you will need, and once you get more confident you can add to the collection.

Here are a few tips that I think a few of you may benefit from! Tips that I wish people had told me when first branching out into the world of make up & make up application.

  • The key to picking the best base: foundation, powder and concealer, is finding one that compliments your skin tone. Also picking one due to skin type: oily, dry ect. When applying foundation, make sure it is blending up properly, whether using a foundation brush or using your fingers. Liquid concealer is the easiest to blend. I can't stress blending enough, nobody likes the orange face, white neck look.
  • Using to much eye make up can help you to look like a panda or can be to harsh on the sensitive eye area. Stick with soft shades
  • If using a lip liner, do not line outside your natural lip line. Work with what nature gave you!
  • When choosing a lipstick, it's a case of trial and error. We've all picked up that one colour that thought would look fabulous, and we ended up looking like drag queens. Swatching is a great way to give you an idea of what the colour will look like on your skin tone.

I hope some of you found this useful and helped you along the way.

Lotsa Love'
