Origins Ginzing Energy Boosting Moisturiser | Review

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

This is one beautiful, beautiful product!!!! I picked it up not long after it's launch in Boots, and at £23.00 a pot.. I did have to close my eyes whilst entering my pin at the till. However, I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up again and again.

It smells amazing, like Terrys chocolate orange, really citrusy and fresh. Just what I need when i'm waking up for work in a morning. It really does give your skin a good morning kick up the ass!
I love that it is a gel formula, making it really lightweight and it was perfect for Summer. I'm not sure if i'll need something a bit more..thick?..during the colder months. I do love it that much though, i'm sure it will work great for any season.

It really helps to brighten up my skin in the morning, giving it a nice glow and really hydrated. You only need a small blob of this for your whole face, so this pot with last a long time. You definitely get your moneys worth.

I wouldn't use this at night, as it sinks in quite quick, and I prefer a night moisturiser that I can feel slowly sinking into the skin, it feels like it's doing more for my skin throughout the night.. does that make sense?? Haha.

I can't recommend this moisturiser enough, and it is well worth the money. Also another little bonus, if you pick it up from Boots, you get your Boots advantage points. Oh La La. Win Win!

As i'm sure all of you know, Benefit They're Real, is a very much hyped about product in the blogging world. It is the number 1 bestselling mascara in the UK. It has won a huge selection of awards, including the 'Ultimate 20 must-haves you can't live without: Best Mascara, hosted by Debenhams.
I use this mascara everyday, after receiving this small sample in a magazine, i've just bought myself the full size. It leaves my lashes looking full, long and with a great curl.

Chinese Beef Stir Fry | Recipe#3

Friday, October 25, 2013

One of the things i've noticed since moving out, is how hard it is to think up meals for throughout the week! I took it for granted, living with my mum, thinking it would be a doddle. It isn't!!! It's so hard trying to think of different and tasty foods. Everyone warned me that when moving out, you tend to live on takeaways, and yeah it's true, we enjoy a treat once a week, but other than that I enjoy creating yummy, fresh, healthy foods.

My mum and sister, are members of a local Slimming World group, so I take a lot of meal inspirations from them, their recipe books and their meal plans. Most recipes that feature on my blog, will be Slimming World friendly. (I'll state this at the end of each post)

One of my favourite meals is a quick stir fry, during this weeks meal plans, I opted to make it with steak, instead of chicken. Just for something a little different. What I love about this meal, is you can just throw it all in a wok, and voila. No fuss.

  • Frying Steak, which I cut into strips. I used two medium sized pieces for two of us, this would change depending on how many you are cooking for and how much meat you like :)
  • Half a red onion.
  • A couple of hand fulls of frozen peppers. We use frozen as they are better value for money and JUST as healthy as fresh peppers. If not using frozen, i'd day use at least half a red and green pepper.
  • A packet of noodles, I use rice noodles as I don't like the texture of the thick egg noodles.
  • 2 tablespoons of Chinese 5 Spice.
  • A drizzle of chilli sauce.

  • I start by adding two sprays of Fry Light (1 cal per spray), into a large wok, before throwing in the steak.
  • I then add the onions and peppers, before mixing in one tablespoon of the 5 spice and a small drizzle of chilli sauce.
  • I add the rice noodles, when the steak is cooked and the onions & peppers have started going soft.
  • I add the rest of the 5 spice and another drizzle of chilli sauce. Just enough so it is coating all the ingredients.
  • Heat it throughout and ta-da!! Done.
I put the stir fry into bowls and served with chopsticks. Because.. I can :)
I find it easy to use chopsticks, where as Aaron..well..he's learning.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post. I absolutely love cooking and trying new things, so I thought i'd put the recipes on the ol' blog, hoping you guys will like them and maybe give them a try.

I also thought you guys might like to see what kind of foods we pick up on a weekly shop? Let me know!

Paris Haul

Thursday, October 24, 2013

I thought i'd show you guys, some of the things I bought whilst I was away in Paris! I had a list of recommended shops and brands, saved on my phone, that has been suggested by other bloggers and vloggers.

I have a mini sample of the Benefit They're Real Mascara, and absolutely love it, so the full size version was instantly added to my Duty Free shopping list, at only £16.50, it was a decent saving off the retail price.
This mascara doesn't dry my lashes out, it separates them without clumping, and really lengthens the lashes, giving them a great curl.

One of the shops I was recommended was City Phram, a giant pharmacy that sells all the great french brands. I stocked up on my beloved Bioderma, and when I noticed their lip balm for 1 euro, I instantly added it to my basket and so far I love it! I also picked up the La Roche Posay Serozinc and Nuxe Reve De Miel after hearing the likes of Lily Pebbles & Anna, from Vivianna Does Makeup. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me! I'll keep you guys posted ;)
On a whim, I also picked up the Nuxe Reve De Miel Face & Body Ultra-Nourishing Cleansing Gel. I really like the look of this product at it didn't break the bank either, for such a large bottle, I think it was about 13 euros?! Bargain. I'm definitely going to use this on my body, rather than my face. You can now enjoy browsing through the Nuxe website: and pick up these products.

Lastly, from Sephora, I was surprised that nothing really stood out to me. Until I spotted these candles!!! I am a complete candle-oholic, Anywhere I go that sells candles, I am 100% going to walk out the shop with at least one... In this case..three :)
They smell absolutely amazing!!! I picked up 'Peony, Orange and Raspberry'.

At the till, I noticed the Sephora's own brush cleaner and I am completely useless at remembering to clean my make up brushes. This spray makes it sound so easy, almost too good to be true. Apparently you just spray it onto a cotton pad, and wipe it over your brushes...
I'll be cleaning my brushes on friday, so I will keep you posted.

I hope you guys enjoyed seeing what I bought, and i'll definitely have some reviews coming soon :)

Lots of love'

Paris Highlights | Travel

       1. The Notre Dame 2. Putting our padlock on the 'love lock' bridge 3. View from part way up the Eiffel Tower 4. Lovely display in the Laduree window 5. Me! With my Minnie ears, outside Disneyland.

As some of you may know, last week I was away in Paris. Aaron bought me the trip for my 21st birthday, and it was beyond amazing. I felt very lucky to have such a thoughtful and loving other half. Girl did good!!! ;)

We were in Paris for 5 days, and spent everyday, sightseeing, acting like big kids (at Disneyland) and shopping! Obviously we had to do some shopping, being in Paris and all.

On our first full day we went on a cruise along the River Seine, where we could hop on and hop off as many times as we liked. We saw the Notre Dame, the 'Love Lock' bridge, The Louvre and so many other lovely places and sights. We actually climbed the Eiffel Tower... well... I got half way up and had a slight panic attack, so we didn't go any higher. I'm not a fan of heights or elevators. I mean.. I have a huge fear of both. I was really proud of myself for getting as high as I did though!

On our second day, we travelled to Disneyland.. and it was everything I dreamed it would be! I am the worlds biggest disney fan, so going there, was like a dream come true. I loved everything about it, the parks, the shops, the restaurants and the rides, The teacups are a firm favourite of mine :) We acted like big kids for the day, and we loved it.

On our last day in the beautiful city, we shopped! We hit Forever 21, City Pharm, Zara and of course Sephora. We picked up some lovely purchases, some which I will show you in my next post, so keep your eyes peeled ;)

We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Chaplain Rive Gauche, in the Rue Jules Chaplain area. Situated on Boulevard Raspail, full of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The metro was also about a 30 seconds walk away, that took you to all the key metro stations in the City. The hotel was a lovely boutique, with free mini bar (pop and water), cleaned thoroughly every day and also had free wifi. I could't recommend this hotel enough, it was in the perfect location.

i hope you guys have enjoyed reading about my amazing trip to Paris, I really can't recommend the city enough. It's beautiful. I'd love to hear about your guys trips to Paris or ANY city breaks!

Burt's Bees Radiance Eye Cream | Review

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

As bad as it sounds, I always, always, always forget to apply eye cream. I have no idea why, it just slips my mind! So when I received this lovely little pot of eye cream goodness from Burt's Bees. I made a promise to myself to use it everyday in my skincare routine.

I apply a ring finger sized blob (if that makes absolutely any sense at all..) underneath my eye, and pat it all around my eye socket. It really helps hydrate and refresh my eyes, leaving them looking and feeling really soft.

I remember on one occasion, during the night, I got something in my eye and through rubbing it so much my eye was really swollen and red underneath. So in the morning, I applied a liberal amount of this to my eye and within 20-30 minutes my eye was almost back to normal! It really helped to cool down, and de-puff my eye area.

Before using this product, I used to have quite dark circle under my eyes, but since applying the creme every morning, they are definitely less noticeable and my eyes feel a lot more awake.

This creme has definitely made it easier to stick to my promise, and it has a firm slot in my morning routine.

Paris Makeup Picks | Evening

Friday, October 18, 2013

Where as in my Daytime make up picks, i've opted for a more subtle make up look. In the evening, it's all about the bold lip. I don't know it's just me, but Paris screams red/berry lips.. sexy and bold!

I will go for a smoky eye look, using golds and bronzes.
The look for me, is all about the lip.

I'd love to hear what products you guys would pick, to take on holiday with you? Whether it be a city break or a week in the sun. Let me know :)

Paris Makeup Picks | Daytime

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

All the above are my go to products when it comes to a 'no makeup, makeup look'. They help cover any blemishes or dark circles, leave my skin looking healthy, waken up my eyes, define my eyebrows and give my lips a lovely nude, pink tint.

During the day, I knew I didn't really want to be wearing a full face of make up. I still want to look somewhat human, so I will using all these products to look fresh faced and fabulous! (I've been watching Sex & The City boxset recently, and find myself quoting Samantha Jones..oops!) Although I may not look fabulous, I look half decent ;) *haha*

These are the products that I have been wearing quite a lot recently and although it's less than I would wear usually, I really like it. I never felt confident enough to wear so little make up, as I have quite bad spots on my chin, and they make me horrendously self conscious.
However, once I found these little treasures and realised how well they work together.. I really think less is more. Especially during the day :)

Writing this, I'm sat on my sofa, watching more Sex & the City..However..
When you lovely people read this, I will be in Paris!!!!!

Au Revoir! ;) xx

Paris Essentials

AA City Pack- Paris, Passport, Nikon CoolPix Camera, YSL Rouge Pur Couture - Fuchsia
and Fat Face Jumper.

For my 21st birthday, I was incredibly lucky to receive a 5 day trip to Paris, from Aaron! After 4 months of waiting for the trip to arrive, today is the day! I am so excited, i've wanted to go to Paris for years and can't wait to see the sights and shop! We are also visiting Disneyland whilst we are there, i've already warned Aaron that I am going to be like a small child whilst we are there. Walking round, spellbound, having my pictures with all the princesses. Oh just writing this is getting me all excited!!!

AA City Pack- We wouldn't be true tourists without a guide book. I love the AA ones, we have one from when we went to Rome, and they list all the best things to see, best places to eat and just general tips and tricks of the city.

Passport- This is a pretty obvious essential. I need this to leave the country. None the less... It's bloody important and I love my passport. Therefore deserves a spot in my essentials post.

Nikon CoolPix- I plan on capturing every single moment of my trip. Whether it be the Eiffel Tower, Sephora, Disneyland or Food. EVERY SINGLE MOMENT.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick | Fuchsia- This is my go to Autumn/Winter lipstick and it only made sense for it to enjoy a trip to Paris as well. It is the perfect berry, pink shade. The staying power is amazing. You can read a full review here.

Fat Face Jumper- I've been checking the weather for the past few weeks, and although it is warmer than here, (where isn't?!! ) I expect it to be quite cool and chilly, and although i'm taking my leather jacket, I still want to add an extra layers especially during the day when we will be walking around. I thought this Fat Face jumper would be perfect. It's so soft and cosy.

I will be posting about my trip, either whilst i'm there or when I get back. You can follow my trip via my instagram @Rachael_CB

Burt's Bees Radiance Serum | Review

Saturday, October 12, 2013

When I received this in the post from the lovely people at Burt's Bees, I was so excited, as I haven't tried anything like this before, and couldn't wait to give it a try.

What I love about this serum, is even though it has an oil formula, it doesn't leave behind any slippery residue, to my hands or face and it sinks straight into the skin

I use this product about 3-4 times a week, in the morning after my cleanser. I dispense two pump of this into my hands, and apply in circular motions to my face. Although it claims to take 4 weeks for you to achieve a more radiant complexion,  I noticed a difference in my skin after the first use! My skin looked brighter, more awake and felt amazingly soft.

At £20, it may be a bit too expensive for people with a lower budget, but as two small pumps does my entire face, this product will last absolutely ages! So, I think it is definitely worth the money.

This is the first skincare item I have tried from Burt's Bees and would love to try more!
I'd love to hear your recommendations for products to try from the brand :)

YSL Rouge Pur Couture | Fuchsia

Monday, October 07, 2013

Autumn/Winter for me is all about berry coloured lips. During the summer months, I store my berry lipsticks away, and opt for more pinky, nude, coral colours. Where as I am very much a summer baby, I am all for berry lips and look forward to the colder months, when I can wear them again.

I feel that with my pale skin tone and brunette hair, berry colours really suit me.

I bought this YSL lipstick in Duty Free, same as with my other YSL lipstick, as I feel the price tag is quite hefty, so any excuse to take advantage of the fact that I can save some money! They retail at £23.50, although at Duty Free I think I picked mine up for about £20.80. Don't quote me on that!

As soon as I swatched this colour, I knew I had to have it. It's the perfect pink, berry colour. Oh, just a word of warning.. When swatching these lipsticks at the counter, be prepared to not be able to get them off! No matter how much I wiped or rubbed the colour, it didn't budge. I take this as a good thing, just don't go swatch crazy ;)

The formula is amazingly soft and creamy, and really hydrates my lips. My lips have been quite dry the past few weeks with the weather constantly changing, as when applying this lipstick i've noticed it hasn't clung to any dry patches at all!

The pigmentation is incredible with a medium to high coverage, I personally prefer quite a high coverage when it comes to berry lips. What I love most is the colour really lasts all day! Whether i've been out for lunch, or drinks, the colour really lasts and stains your lips.

I'm a complete sucker for the YSL lipstick packaging, it's just so glamorous and fancy. YES, i'm one of those people that can 'occasionally' be drawn to a product through their packaging..... okay, all the time! Who am I tryna kid..?! I just love it. The YSL logo on the lipstick is just a bonus!!

At £23.50, they are expensive, but for £20? They are definitely worth it. I am going to the airport again in exactly a week, so I may just pick up another one.

I'm off to Paris next Monday, and this will be my go to colour, both during the day and night.

I'd love to know what you guys think of YSL lipsticks? Which shades do you love?!

Monthly Favourites | September

Sunday, October 06, 2013

I know this gets said every month, but wow, another month is over! It's incredibly scary how quick this year is going. I know I haven't done a monthly favourites in a while, but I really enjoy doing them and reading other peoples. Sorry this post is a few days late, we've been having problems with our internet, which are thankfully all sorted now :)

In September, i've been all about the skincare. Trying new products, whether it be for my face, hands, lips. I've loved trying new brands and seeing what they have to offer.  These are the products that have really stood out to me this month, and I will continue to use for a long time! Obviously a make up product has made it's way in here, and it's a bloody good'un.

Origins GinZing Energy Boost Moisturiser-
I absolutely love this product! I won't go to in-depth as I have a full review on it, coming soon! What I will tell you, is that it smells amazing. So refreshing and smells just like oranges. A great wake-up call for my skin in the morning. At £23, it is quite expensive, but as you need need to use hardly any product, this 50ml tub will last ages!

Ren Clear Calm Clay Cleanser-
This is my first Ren product, and it definitely won't be my last. I have a full review of this product here. It leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft and clean, and has done wonders for my skin when i've been a bit spotty. Especially on my chin area, damn you pesky spots! It helps to reduce redness and definitely reduces spots in size, making them less obvious. Hooray. I can't recommend this product enough.

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm| Pink Blossom-
I bought this product, after the lovely Burt's Bees assistant at an event in Manchester, swatched it for me. As soon as I got home, I popped it into my basket. It's super soft and moisturising on the lips, also adding a lovely subtle pink tint. Think, you're lips.. but better.

Burt's Bees Almond & Milk Hand Cream-
Wow, the smell of this is just.. goodness in a jar. If you've read my full review, found here, you'll know how much I love this hand cream! I love the packaging, texture, smell. Just everything. I'd recommend this product, without a doubt. It sinks into my hands, without leaving behind any residue. The smell lingers for hours, after applying. It's just.. great.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24hr | On & On Bronze-
I'm a sucker for bronze, gold, copper eye shadows. So when I heard Anna at viviannadoesmakeup, raving about this bronze eye shadow, from maybelline, I knew I had to have it. It has a slight sparkle to it, but nothing to daunting or in your face. This is the first cream based eye shadow i've bought, and for just £4.99, it's incredible. It doesn't crease or budge all day! It's great to use as a base or as a shadow on it's own.

I'd love to hear what you guys have been loving this month! Lots of love
