Very Berry Smoothie | Recipe#10

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Whenever I go to a cafe or restaurant of any sort, if there are smoothies on the menu, I will order one! My favourite are berry or citrusy based smoothies! Whenever I walk past a smoothie bar, I always without fail order one. Damn you healthy, refreshing, delicious drinks!!

To try and save a few pennies, me and Aaron decided to have a go at making our own! We opted for a berry based smoothie, as we had some frozen berries and strawberries already in.

  • 2 handful of frozen berries.
  • a handful of strawberries, sliced in half.
  • 1 small banana, sliced.
  • water, however much depending on how thin or thick you would like your smoothie.

  • After cutting up your strawberries and banana, put all the fruit in a jug.
  • Add in your water, you could actually use milk or yoghurt for this, I just opted for water as it's healthier :).
  • Using a hand whisk, whisk all the ingredients together until you have the texture you desire. I like mine quite thin, without any lumps of fruit.
I was so impressed with how these turned out, I know they're super easy but I was still sceptical as to how they'd actually turn out. They tasted amazing, really fresh and fruity!

I'm definitely going to be making these by the jug full in the Summer, maybe using some different fruits!

What are your favourite flavour smoothies? I'd love to know.

Manchester Bloggers Meetup

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Last week I attended a Manchester meetup, held by the lovely Georgina at A Fairy Gob Mother. Before I made my way to the venue, I met up with KelseyRachel and Francesca at the train station before heading over to Wagamamas, i've never been before and really didn't know what to expect. We were told to sit wherever we liked and given our menus, there was so much choice and I didn't know where to start. Drinks wise I opted for a fresh orange juice which was amazingly refreshing, and picked the Chicken Katsu Curry as my main, which was delicious! They explain when they are taking your order that all the food is made fresh, so they bring out whichever dish is ready, as soon as it is ready, so you may have to wait a few minutes for everyone to get their food. I personally think this is a great idea as you are getting your food served at it's freshest and it isn't sat under a heat lamp waiting for the other dishes to be made.
The portions were huge and we all struggled to finish! I'll definitely be back again. We were then met by Cat, before heading to the venue...the wrong one! We didn't realise that there were TWO 'The Font' bars and we ended up at the wrong one. We managed to ring a taxi and finally made it to the right bar, fashionably late. We headed straight to the bar for cocktails, I think we deserved them!

The meetup was held upstairs where we were met my Georgina and the other bloggers, just in time to play 'Higher or Lower/Play your cards right'. It was a great way to break the ice and win some lovely prizes. There was also a raffle, paying £2 a strip, the money going to an animal shelter, which was such an incredible idea! We managed to raise a total of £36, which between the 15 of us which attended, I think was fantastic!

We then were entertained by the amazing 'Ron' who does incredible card tricks, they literally blew us away. I put 'Ron' in quotes as we weren't entirely sure if that was his name, he told lies about lies about lies and we got very confused as to what was true and what wasn't. Which made it all that more clever! You can find him on Twitter @ronismagic .
We were also lucky enough to receive some incredible goodie bags which contained products from Lush, The 8th Day, Schwarzkopf and Diptyque! The meetup was so lovely and as there wasn't that many of us, it was really cosy and easy to chat to everyone, which I prefer as you can meet more new people and it feels less daunting than meeting a room full of people!

I had a amazing night and can't wait for the next one.

Drugstore Favourites.

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

I love a high end product as much as the next beauty blogger, but my heart truly belongs to drugstores. Boots & Superdrug are my absolute favourites for picking up some amazing products at great prices.
Here are just a few of my must have, will repurchase products.

Real Technique Brushes; Blush Brush, Stippling Brush & Face Expert Brush: I love love love these brushes! I picked up my first brush about a year ago after hearing so much hype surrounding them, and now I can't imagine not owning any! The brushes are so soft and apply my makeup flawlessly. Such a bargain as well, i'll definitely be adding more to my collection.

Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Nude: I never understood the hype surrounding nude eyeliners, what difference could they really make to my eyes? A hell of a lot i'll tell ya!!!! The consistency is really creamy and the pigmentation is incredible. The nude shade is great for cancelling out any redness on my waterline, which can leave my eyes looking dull and tired. It really helps to brighten up my face, opening my eyes.

Bourjois Color Boost Lip Crayon in Peach on the Beach: Bourjois are one of my favourite brands, I love their foundations and lip products! The Lip Crayons are no exception, amazingly moisturising, glossy, non sticky and host an spf 15. Peach on the Beach is the perfect pinky peach shade. It's so versatile and perfect to just apply and go!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer: *Heavens open, angels sing* My holy grail drugstore concealer! It's so smooth and easy to blend, I tend to use my finger. Its amazing for covering dark circles, leaving my skin looking dewy and really awake. I love the foundation that matches this, however i've just run out and am in desperate need to repurchase.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder: This is the first and last pressed powder I think i'll ever use! It's such a bargain and does an amazing job of mattifying this skin. I get quite an oily chin and wearing a dewy foundation (which are my favourite kind) do nothing to hide the fact, which is where this amazing powder comes in. It keeps the oil at bay and only needs retouching after a good few hours. It doesn't cake or cling to any dry patches which is another reason that I love it!

Topshop Cream Blush in Flush: I'd say that Topshop makeup is drugstore as it's so well reasonably priced. The cream blushes are my absolute favourite and the only cream blushes I own, mainly because I haven't felt the need to try any others. Flush is the perfect pink, peachy coral shade. The colours can look a little scary when in the pan, but the colours can be built up on application. I use the Real Techniques Stippling Blush to dab it on to my cheeks, then blend it in. Although they are creamy, they dry with a more powdery finish. I love topshop makeup and at just £6 for the blushes, they are amazing quality for such a bargain.

Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadows: I have the shade On & On Bronze (lovely gold, bronze colour) and Pink Gold (a gorgeous champagne, pale pink shade). These are so easy to just quickly apply, blend in and go. They add just the right amount of colour, which you can build up. They are so long wearing and light, not creasing and can last up to 8 hours, 24 hours is a little of an over exaggeration I would say.. amazing none the less.

Revlon Lip Butters in Raspberry Pie & Lollipop: These are the only shades I own from the Lip Butters range, as they are my absolute favourites. They are my favourite berry shades, and my go to lipsticks for Autumn/Winter. Raspberry pie is the perfect deep raspberry colour, where as lollipop is a lovely pink, purple shade. They are so pigmented and incredibly smooth to apply. The colour lasts for an age, I recently wore one on a night out and didn't need to reapply it for about 5 hours, and that was with eating and drinking *a heck of a lot*.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation: My favourite foundation! It is amazingly dewy and gives a really natural radiant finish. I'd say it has a medium coverage but buildable. It feels really hydrating on the skin, which at first I was worried about with my oily chin, but it doesn't cause any issues at all. It doesn't cake or cling to dry patches. It is my go to foundation and I really do love it so.

What are your favourite drugstore products?

Holiday Beauty Picks | February Edition.

Monday, February 24, 2014

Hello, from Tunisia! If you read my Winter Sun Fashion post, you will know that I was getting ready to head off for a girly week away with my mum. I'll post more about my holiday and what I got up to, when I get back. However, I thought over the next couple of days i'd give you an insight into what makeup/skincare I chose to take with me.
First up, makeup...

During the day I don't wear any make up as it's too hot and i'm in & out of the pool all day, it would just be a waste. I opt for a good moisturiser containing SPF, and Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Blossom, which is like a your lips but better type colour. link |
In the evening, I wear a light base which is where Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation comes into it, giving my skin a lovely dewy complexion with a low to medium coverage. My chin can get quite oily, so I will carry my go to powder, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder link | For a bit more coverage I will use the YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch link | under my eyes covering any dark circles, from late nights sipping cocktails to early mornings in the sun, and Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer link | on any spots.

Although i'm going on holiday, I don't get colour on my face instantly, so a slight application of MAC Bronzing Powder link | until I achieve a tanned complexion will come in handy. My all time favourite highlighter is MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle link | which is why it has earned a well deserved spot in my holiday picks.

Blush wise i've opted for a cream blusher from Topshop in the shade Flush link |, a lovely coral peach colour and a powder blush in Stay Pretty link |, a baby pink colour which adds a lovely subtle hint of colour.

It's only recently that i've discovered the wonders of nude eyeliner, I don't know what i'd do without it now, Rimmel Scandaleyes in Nude link | is my favourite, it really awakens my eyes up leaving them looking bigger and brighter. Benefit They're Real Mascara link | is amazing and was an obvious choice when it came to picking a mascara to take with me. It really lengthens and thickens my lashes without clumping them together.
For eyeshadow i'm only taking two choices, Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr link | in On & On Bronze and Pink Gold. Both leave a lovely colour behind whilst keeping it quite subtle.

Now for my favourite part, lipsticks! It was hard trying to pick lipsticks to take with me, I actually felt guilty on the ones I haven't chosen to that bad? Yep, probably! However after many tears, I jest, I finally made my final choices, sticking to orange and corals. YSL Rouge Volupte in Orange Imperitent link | is a gorgeous shiny orange pink colour, probably my favourite out of the lipsticks i've chosen. Topshop in Oh La La link |, is a lovely, bright coral orange and Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayon in Peach on the Beach link | is a lovely subtle peach pink colour.

What are your must take products when you go away? Any of the above?

Homemade Sour Cream & Chive Dip | Recipe#9

Friday, February 21, 2014

It doesn't look like much does it?! I'll have you all know, that it tastes so god damn good! Just the right amount of garlic and chives to give the dip a real good kick.

  • 50ml sour cream
  • 2tbsp low fat mayo
  • garlic, as much as you like, we used about a teaspoon..we're garlic fanatics though. Screw the bad breathe and pass us the cloves!
  • 1tbsp finely chopped chives.

  • Mix the sour cream and mayo together, until blended.
  • Add the garlic and chives, stir.
Voila..done. So simple yet delicious. I served this with our homemade wedges, recipe can be found here.  I love how something so simple can taste so good, and it's healthy which is an added bonus. I'd love to know any dip recipes you know, as they are a great accompaniment for so many dishes.

Living With A Boy..What They Don't Tell You.

Tuesday, February 18, 2014
Hey, I know and can even understand why you may have not been truthful regarding your living conditions this summer....I'm open minded and will hear you out- just be honest and share with me.... otherwise we can never go forward with anything....

Aaron & I moved in together in September last year, we'd been together almost 5 years and felt it was time to move forward in our relationship, taking the next step. I was planning living rooms and shopping lists in my head for weeks, before we finally found somewhere. I thought it would be all hearts and flowers, and it is great don't get me wrong but there was some stuff that wasn't in the handbook!!

  • You very rarely have time to yourself, to sit and wallow, feel sorry for yourself ect. Even on my days off it's spent out with family or cleaning the house. Then Aaron comes home and I can't just sit and listen to sad music having a good sob when needed. We all need a good cry once in a while don't we? We also need the time to take a good selfie when required and I don't think Aaron appreciates me sat in the living room pouting to myself...
  • Secondly, How can men survive with hardly any possessions?! 2 skincare products and a shampoo will not suffice. How do you live?! You make us feel like hoarders!
  • I live with an OCD neat freak, if my mum is coming round he spends about 5 hours tidying the living room. The woman lived with me for 21 years, she knows i'm a messy cow!
  • I never understood the importance of having your own space! We bought the chest of drawers for the bedroom from my house into the apartment, and I was not prepared to sacrifice my sock drawer to house his boxers, what the hell is all that about? Giving up my 'winter pyjama' drawer for his shorts and t-shirts, is NOT what I signed up for.
  • Peeing on the toilet seat..really? I thought that was a myth..clearly not!
All this being said they're are some pretty damn good points to living with Aaron..
  • He bought me a pack of lovehearts whilst writing this post, n'aww such a cutie.
  • Constant cuddle buddy is always good.
  • Having someone to come home to, drunk, at 2 o'clock in the morning, waffling about absolute crap before passing out in a full face of makeup and your clothes still on.
  • Letting me watch re-runs of FRIENDS and Sex and the City, and only complaining about it once. Then letting me quote the whole 'Hey just so you know, it's not that common, it doesn't happen to every guy and it is a big deal!!!' just before Rachel says it..
Aaron you're a good'un and I love you, a whole lot. Even though you do piss me off, no end :)

The Lipstick Tag.

Monday, February 17, 2014

1. How many lipsticks do you own? I own..*runs to dressing table to count*.. 28!..I think that's quite good. Is it?
2. First lipstick you owned? Probably a strange barbie one many years ago, but the first one I remember properly was the red Rimmel one ft. in the picture above. I still own and wear it! One of my favourite lipsticks.
3. Favourite lipstick brand? Oh now this is a tough one..I love YSL, I love MAC's shade range..Rimmel & Bourjois are amazing, Topshop & Revlon are great. High end i'd say..MAC, drugstore i'd say..ahh it's so hard..Rimmel.Revlon.Bourjois.Topshop...BOURJOIS. Final decision...I think.
4. Most worn lipstick? Rimmel one or MAC's Please Me.
5. Favourite finish? Matte or Cremesheen. Can't decide.
6. Last lipstick you bought? Rimmel in Glam Plum Fulham, perfect vampy purple shade.
7. How many lipsticks are in your bag at the moment? 3. 1 YSL, 1 MAC & one Bourjois.
8. Favourite red lip colour? Bourjois Rouge Edition in Rouge Buzz, my all time favourite red lipstick. The perfect red, hydrating, so pigmented and has amazing lasting power.
9. How do you store your lipsticks? In an acrylic holder, pretty much one that every beauty blogger seems to have, haha.
10. Which lipstick are your currently lusting over? MAC lipstick in Saint Germain and YSL lipstick in Peach Passion.

I tag everyone and anyone to do this tag! I love lipsticks with a passion and would love to know which is your favourite?

The Sunday Post #2

Sunday, February 16, 2014
1, DIY Sunday. 2, New blogging/dressing table. 3, Homemade banana pancakes. 4, Pub selfie. 5,Catching up on some blogs. 6, Jumping on some bandwagons. 7, Favourite raspberry lemonade. 8, Valentines meal. 9, Bed, maltesers & American Horror Story.

This Week:
This week has been pretty relaxed and not much has been happening. Aaron & I built my new Ikea Malm Dressing Table, which I love. Perfect for my makeup and to blog at. I also went to the pub to spend some quality time with my dad, we had a couple of drinks and had a good catch up.

I also went shopping and out for dinner with my mum, sister and youngest niece, where I spent too much money in Boots and River Island..damn, holiday shopping will be the death of me..or my bank card, either one is pretty sad.

Valentines Day also graced us with it's presence this week, where i'm not a huge fan of Valentines and we don't go all out with soppy messages and huge gifts, we did enjoy a lovely meal at home with candles. que the *awwwwws* I know, so damn cute. We also booked a week away for November, for Aaron's birthday, get away from the crappy British weather.

I've been completely hooked on American Horror Story the past couple of weeks, and i'm currently on the third season, which I must admit i'm not enjoying it as much as the others. Season 2 I think is my favourite..
I've been hooked on the Divergent books! There are 3 in the series, and I think I read them all in a couple of days. They are similar to the Hunger Games but..darker. The film is due to be released in..March I think, and I can't effin wait. I would definitely recommend reading the books first, maybe for you kindle readers, download a free sample like I did first, and see what you think.

Next Week:
In the coming week, i'll be working *yawn*, for a change and also going visiting my friends lovely new baby Lucy Violet, she's so gorgeous and can't wait to have a cuddle! On Sunday afternoon me and my mum are flying out to Tunisia for a girly week in the sun. I really can't wait. Cocktails, sun and swimming pools are calling my name.

Weekly Pamper #1 | Lush Bubble Bar | Candy Mountain

Saturday, February 15, 2014

We all deserve a weekly pamper, whether your version is a face mask and tranquil music or a relaxing bath with a good book, a pampering is always a real treat! Nothing to me screams 'pamper night' more than a hot bath with lots of bubbles and my latest read! My favourite kind of bubble bath is a Lush bath.

I have been a Lush fan for years, ranging from their face masks, shower gels and bath bombs, i'm yet to be disappointed. My latest absolute favourite is this Bubble Bar in Candy Mountain. It smells incredible, a mixture of vanilla and pear drops, similar to Lush's Snow Fairy. The smell is so strong and lingers around for ages..don't think i've ever spent so long in the bath.

It contains their bubble crumble mix, which adds amazing pink mist to the bubbles. They look so pretty! It left the water so creamy and my skin felt so soft.

I've used the Bubble Bar once, and have well over half left which is amazing! It means I get to enjoy this gorgeous product a few more times.

What is your favourite Lush product?

Valentine Gift Guide//For Him

Friday, February 07, 2014
Now, let's not forget the man in our life, he too deserves some spoiling! Here is my gift guide, which host some presents I know Aaron would love...unlucky we don't celebrate Valentines..maybe for his 10 months :) Jokes. Haha.

Topman Hoodie £20.00: Aaron would live in hoodies if i'd let him...then again, so would I! I love nothing more than snuggling up in one of his hoodies, so he regularly needs new ones! I love this simple grey one from Topman, and they are so comfy.

Diesel Boxers £22.00: How nice are these? I love pink on men, not like an in your face pink shirt, but a subtle pink t-shirt or these pink boxers, even better! You gotta admit, your man would look pretty hot in these?!

Cowshed Bullocks Moisturiser £16.00: The name of this has had me laughing to myself for about 5 minutes!! It's the little things.. Anyway, it's not just us girls that need an excessive grooming routine, men do as well. I've heard great things about the Cowshed products, so heres hoping their moisturiser will give your man a face worth looking at..jokes ;) haha.

Asos Table Football £5: ...because which man wouldn't want a mini football?

Topshop T-Shirt £32.00: I love this t-shirt, the ombre effect! Aaron has quite a lot of Topman tops, and they are really great quality and there's always something to suit everyones different tastes.

What are you buying your man this Valentines?

Monthly Favourites | January

Thursday, February 06, 2014

I know this gets said every month, but seriously..where has January gone?! January always seem to be the longest month. Winding down after Christmas and the New Year ready to see what is in store for us in 2014. January for me has been quite a crappy month for me and my family, we've been through a loss and it has definitely taken it's toll. Hopefully things will be better in the month of February.

After gorging on chocolate and alcohol over December and the beginning of January, my skin has definitely taken a hit, with the added stress throughout January, my skin has been left looking pretty shitey. Dull, dry and spotty are the words to perfectly sum up my skin at the moment. So skincare has been left quite basic, as has my makeup. Here are the products that I have been reaching for in January.

Elvive Damage Care Conditioning Repair Spray link. | Since having my hair cut (post here) I was determined to take better care of my hair. This Elvive leave in conditioner has really helped give my hair a real boost. It's really lightweight and doesn't weigh my hair down at all. It's also great for detangling hair, my hair used to get really tangled when it was longer, since cutting it shorter..not so much. It definitely still makes it more manageable.

Victoria Secret Pure Daydream Body Spray link | I picked this body spray up at Duty Free in Rhodes Airport and it was love at first sniff. It is described as "A bright blend of fresh pearl orchid and pink currant". It is the perfect flirty girly scent. I carry mine around in my bag, as the size of the bottle is just perfect for using on the go.

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Highlighting Pen link | One of my favourite under eye concealers! It completely covers my dark circles and highlights just the right amount to really awaken my face. It's also great for adding a gorgeous highlight, when applied to the side of your nose. I would 100% recommend this product! It's worth the £25 price tag, or like me..why not pick it up at Duty Free? Save a couple of pennies ;)

MAC "Please Me" Lipstick link. | This was one of the first MAC lipsticks I picked up, and I still love it! A lovely matte pink, has perfect coverage without being cakey, which some matte lipsticks can be. Clinging to any dry patches and lines in the lips. This lipstick does not do that at all. I personally love Mac's matte lipsticks, and this is definitely one of my favourites.

MAC Pro Longwear Blush in Stay Pretty link. | I bought this product a while and didn't get round to using it for ages. *don't judge, we all do it!* I finally opened it at the beginning of January and fell in love. The texture is so lightweight and silky, it applies amazingly to the skin, providing a flawless finish which looks so natural. It adds just the right amount of pink, leaving you looking naturally flushed. I'll definitely be checking other shades out from the Pro Longwear blush range.

REN Clear Clay Calm Cleanser link. | This mask has been a life saviour!! It leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft and clean, and also helping get rid of those pesky blemishes. I apply this in the shower, at least twice a week, massage it in, leave it for 5 minutes and then wash off. I was reluctant to buy this, but after reading so many positive reviews, I figured I couldn't go wrong. I'm so glad I picked it up, and will definitely be purchasing it again..and again..and again.

What have you been loving?

Valentine Gift Guide//For Her.

Tuesday, February 04, 2014
As i'm sure you are all well aware, Valentines Day is just around the corner! Aaron & I don't really celebrate Valentines as we've been together 6 years this year, and with not long having moving out and saving up, we had to get our priorities right. Saying this, we always exchange cards and Aaron always buys me flowers..i'm a lucky girl :)

I thought i'd give you guys some ideas of what to buy the lady in your life, hints for your man, or something to treat yourself too, you know we all do it! Here are some of the things that i'm lusting over and think would make great presents!

Pandora Sparking Heart Spacer £30.00: I'm a sucker for a new Pandora charm, regularly getting new ones for Birthdays and Christmases which I love. These are great, as they are something you can keep and cherish forever. Aaron has bought me 2 charms for my bracelet and they both mean a lot too me.

Topshop Nail Varnish (Saffron) £5 and Lip Bullet (Back in the Game) £8: I love Topshop makeup and have a collection of lipsticks, highlighters and nail varnishes. They are amazing quality and cheap as well. Saffron is the perfect shade for Spring/Summer, a lovely orange/coral colour. Where as Back in the Game is a lovely vibrant pink! Perfect for a Valentines kiss ;).

Jo Malone Cologne in Red Roses £39.00: Jo Malone *be still my beating heart*..I just love, love, love her products. I own one of her colognes, Peony Blush & Suede, which is incredible and Aaron bought me the matching candle for Christmas..I don't think i've ever loved him more! The latest collection is Red Roses, perfectly appt. for the season of love.

Asos 3D iphone 5 case £12.00: How cute is this phone case?! As we all know, iphones are fragile little things and always need some added protection, this one will do that and look so pretty at the same time! It's a win win really.

Too Faced The Absolute Essentials- 5 Piece Brush Set £60.00: I've added this to the gift guide as it's on my wishlist!! The brushes also come with a zip top tote bag with a cute little teddy bear charm.

What are you hoping for this Valentines?

Homemade Cajun Potato Wedges | Recipe#8

Saturday, February 01, 2014

Since eating healthy, i've been researching all different recipes, and ways to turn unhealthy foods into a healthier option. Cue cajun spiced potato wedges, they are so easy to make yet pack a punch in the spiced department. They have just enough spice to make them taste incredible, without blowing your head off. Here's how you do it..

  • 6 large potatoes, Maris Piper preferably.
  • Oil.
  • Cajun Seasoning, as little or as much as you like. I used about 2 tbsp.
  • Cut the 6 potatoes into wedge shapes and preheat the oven to 180degrees.
  • Place them on a baking tray, skin side down.
  • Drizzle oil over the potatoes, coating them ready for the seasoning.
  • Sprinkle over the cajun seasoning, as much as suits you and your spicy taste buds.
  • Put in the oven for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve with whatever main dish you like! We had ours with homemade burgers, (recipe coming soon).

What are your favourite things to make in the kitchen?
