Mini Haul | Fashion & Beauty

Monday, March 31, 2014

I just love it when I get texts off my big sister, asking if I want to go shopping after work, to the Trafford Centre...don't I always!!!! I ran home, got changed and went straight back out. We did some shopping, had some tea, and then did more shopping.

1. First we went to the Disney shop looking for some Frozen goodies for the girls, but they literally had nothing! It had all sold out, which is a bugger but totally understandable. I LOVE collecting cups from the Disney shop, whether it be mugs or glasses I just love them. I have a Beauty & the Beast one which I use all the time, so when I saw this Little Mermaid one I knew I had to add it to my collection.

2. We then went to Selfridges, which has a Primark section! I know right, Primark IN Selfridges! I picked up this lovely playsuit for £5, it's so light and the lovely pink floral print is perfect for Summer. I'll definitely be taking this to Crete with me in June, it'll be perfect to just throw on over my bikini.
I also found these sunglasses which for £3 are a complete bargain! I pick up a new pair of shades every year, so I have quite the collection...

3. My Sister and I absolutely love Forever 21, everything is so lovely and reasonably priced. If I lose Natalie whilst shopping in Forever 21, I always find her at the jewellery section, browsing through the gorgeous necklaces and rings. I want to add more basic pieces to my wardrobe, clothing that can be dressed up or down, and worn with everything. I saw this grey body-con skirt and instantly popped it into my basket. I've worn it so much since I bought it, it's great with tights and boots. I think it will look really nice when it gets a little warmer with bare legs and converse.

4. Shopping wouldn't be the same without a trip to Boots now would it? I love the Bourjois Happy Light Foundation, so when I spotted the Happy Light Primer I knew I had to have it, I tried it on the back of my hand and it felt so soft and hydrating.
I knew I wanted to try the new Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms after seeing so many positive comments, I picked up the shade Audacious which is a lovely orangey, coral, reds. Whilst my sister was browsing the No 7 counter I found the Pop & Glow Cream Blush Sticks, I wanted all of them, but settled (for now) on Rose Blossom, which is a gorgeous bright pink shade, which when blended out, leaves you with a really natural looking flush.

I love spending quality time with my family, and even more so when it's spent shopping!
What have you been picking up recently? Any favourite shops?

Lots of love! xx

Fluffy Banana Pancakes| Recipe#11

Saturday, March 29, 2014

I'm not really a breakfast person. I think it's quite a boring meal..and always run out of ideas to make it more interesting. I bought The Hairy Dieters: Eat For Life cookbook a couple of months ago, and have been absolutely loving it. I was looking for healthy breakfast inspiration, when I spotted these banana pancakes. They're so easy to make and taste delicious. This recipe makes 12, they are great to have for breakfast or as a snack, popping them into the toaster to reheat. At only 74 calories per pancake, they are healthy, light and yummy.

  • 175g self-raising flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 tbsp caster sugar
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 225ml skimmed milk
  • 1 tsp sunflower oil
  • 200g mixed berries

  • Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Whisk the egg whites into a separate bowl until stiff, but not dry and whisk in the caster sugar.
  • Stir the milk slowly and gradually into the flour mixture, the beat hard with a metal whisk to get rid of any lumps. Peel the banana and cut into half lengthways, then into thin slices. Stir the banana into the pancake mix.
  • Fold a quarter of the whisked egg whites into the batter with a large metal spoon until evenly combined, then very gently fold in the rest.
  • Brush a large non-stick frying pan with the oil and place over a medium-high heat. Add 4 large spoonfuls of the pancake batter to the pan, spacing them well apart.
  • Cook the pancakes for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes on one side until the surface looks almost dry and you can see small air bubbles rising to the surface. Flip the pancakes over and cook on the other side for 2 more minutes, until they are puffed up and lightly browned.
  • Pop the pancakes onto a plate and keep warm whilst you cook the rest in the same way. Serve the pancakes with lots of fresh fruit and maybe some greek yogurt or honey. Mmmm.
These have totally changed my opinion on breakfast and have fast become a favourite in the house. Do you have any healthy breakfast ideas? What is your favourite?

Best of the Brand.

Friday, March 28, 2014

There are just some brands that never fail, particularly in the high street. They hold host to some amazing products, whether it be bases, eye products or lips..there is something for everyone.

My favourites brands at the minute are Rimmel, Maybelline, Revlon, Topshop and Bourjois. They always have amazing products, some which are everyday essentials for me and ones that I wouldn't hesitate to repurchase.

Rimmel: Rimmel are the first makeup brand I tried, and they haven't disappointed since. Their Wake Me Up foundation has been one of my favourite foundations to date. It's perfect for summer, really brightening my skin. Leaving my skin looking just the right amount of dewy and glowing, without appearing oily.
I'm a HUGE fan of their Apocalip Lip Lacquers, they are such gorgeous colours and are so pigmented it's crazy. They apply like a gloss, dry like a lipstick and last like a lip stain. Perfect right?!
I love love love Rimmel's Scandaleyes range, their eyeliners are so soft and creamy. The nude eyeliner is my absolute favourite and has made such a difference to my makeup routine. The Scandaleyes Shadow Sticks are another favourite of mine, they apply so softly and add just the right amount of colour to your lids. I love to use them as a base, before applying any other eyeshadows, as they help them to last longer on my lids.
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder is my favourite powder ever. I can't see me using another one any time soon. It does the job and is ridiculously cheap! It really helps to mattify the skin, without looking cakey.

Revlon: My favourite product from Revlon are definitely the lip butters. They come in an amazing range of colours, some really subtle and some that add an amazing pop of colour. My favourites are the berry shades Raspberry Pie and Lollipop. They are my go to shades, especially in Autumn/Winter. They really hydrate my lips and the lasting power is amazing.

Maybelline: Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr anyone?! These have become a fast favourite in my makeup bag, they are so hyped about in the blogging/vlogging world and it's understandable why. They are so easy to apply and blend, they don't crease on the eye, and work amazing as a base for other shadows.

Bourjois: I think Bourjois are my favourite makeup brand..I think..don't hold me too it. I am a huge fan of their bases, Healthy Mix and the Happy Light Foundations are my absolute favourite to wear on a daily basis. They don't break the bank yet provide an amazing soft, hydrated, dewy base.
The Bourjois Color Boost Lip Crayons are lovely, I own Peach on the Beach and it is the perfect Spring/Summer shade.
I've recently picked up the Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer, and I love it. It feels so moisturising on the skin and really helps to leave the skin hydrated, before applying your base of choice. I have a blog post coming out on this soon, so keep your eyes peeled ;).

Topshop: I think i'd class Topshop as a drugstore brand? It's very reasonably priced and great quality. I love the simple packaging, it's so cute and always looks good on my dressing table.
Their cream blushes are amazing, I have two and wear them regularly. They are really pigmented, so you only need one dab of this on the cheeks, and you're good to go. They blend so easily, leaving behind a gorgeous natural colour, I use the Real Techniques Stippling Brush to blend the blush out and it works perfectly.
I'm a sucker for a Topshop lipstick, they have such a range of colours, something for everyone. I always apply a good layer of lip balm before applying these, as they can cling to dry patches on your lips, but the colour payoff is so good, i'll forgive them.

What are your favourite drugstore products? Do you have a favourite brand?

Skincare Wishlist.

Friday, March 21, 2014

This week I had made a pact to myself, to use up all my skincare and body products before buying anymore. I know, I know..I must be crazy right?! I think I pick up a new shower gel, body cream or face mask every week. I currently have a huge skincare wishlist, lusting over so many beautiful products, so I have decided that as a treat to myself for sticking to said pact, and 'shopping my stash' I will buy something off my wishlist. Now to decide which product will be the first to pick up..

Aesop Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Oil//£39.00: I am yet to try something from Aesop and this cleansing oil is at the top of my lust list. I've heard so many good things about cleansing oils and still haven't tried one. One thing I love about Aesop is the packaging! Eugh, it would just look so pretty in my bathroom. It's so simple yet lovely.

Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque//£33.00: My skin is being a bloody nuisance recently, my chin especially. I've got quite red, angry spots that I just can't get rid off. I've been feeling pretty run down recently, and it's taking a toll on my skin. Another product from Aesop that i'm dying to try is the Anti-Blemish Masque, it is described as a 'Deeply cleansing clay-based formula, enhanced with purifying botanicals, extracts impurities, absorbs excess oil and calms troubled skin'. Sounds like perfection in a jar, and just what my skin needs.

Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask//£30.00: I've heard so many bloggers raving about this mask, and as my love for Rens Clear Clay Calm Cleanser grows everyday, I am dying to try some more of Rens products. This is a peel mask, which is designed to renew complexion, reduce the appearance of fine lines and dramatically improve skin tone. Who doesn't want that?!

GLAMGLOW Youthmud Mud Mask//£24.99: I received a sachet of this at an event last year and LOVED IT. I've never gotten round to picking it up, but since discovering they sell it in Duty Free, I will definitely be picking up a tub in June. Love a good Duty Free purchase! This is such a gentle exfoliator, really softening the skin and helping it feel hydrated. It also helps that Fleur De Force raves about this mask.

Origins Ginzing Eye Cream//£23.00: I have the moisturiser version of this, and love it. It is my go to moisturiser in the morning. It smells and feels amazing on my skin. I have high hopes for the eye cream, and have heard great things about it via the blogging & vlogging world.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask//£22.00: Whilst browsing the Origins website, I stumbled across this mask, which just really appealed to me. It claims to leave skin feeling smoother and hydrated, an intense moisture replacement mask which helps to quench skins thirst. I don't own anything else like this, an overnight mask. It'd be interesting to see if it actually works!

I really hope I can stick to my pact....I need some serious willpower. What are you currently lusting over this month? A particular brand or product?

The Spring Edit.

Thursday, March 20, 2014

As soon as February is out of the way, the lure of springtime pastels becomes too much. It starts with a slight coral blush and before you know it has escalated into a full blown pastel haven. Nails, lips, cheeks and dewy foundations are out in force..

Dewy Foundations; I love nothing more than starting with a base that leaves my skin glowing and looking really healthy. My favourites at the minute are all drugstore gems..Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, Rimmel Wake Me Up and my latest purchase Bourjois Happy Light Foundation.

Blushes; Ohh blush, how I love you. As the weather gets a teeny bit brighter and not so miserable, I love to rock the coral, baby pinks and peaches. They add just that natural flush to your cheeks.

Lips; Oh where to begin...if I could wear summer time lipsticks all year, I would..Oranges, Pinks, Corals lips=happy rachael. My favourite shades for this spring are Topshop in Macaroon, Bourjois Color Boost in Peach on the Beach and MAC Snob.

Nails; Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine just scream the perfect spring/summer nails to me. Perfect texture, perfect finish and the most gorgeous colours. I have Blueberry, Prickly Pear and Greenberry and I love them all equally.

Perfume; In Spring/Summer I tend to go for more girly, floral type perfumes. Flowerbomb by Victor Rolf and Daisy by Marc Jacobs in particular.

What are your spring picks? Are you a pastel fanatic?

Living with a GIRL..What They Don't Tell You.

Monday, March 17, 2014

*Rachael* If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will have seen my post 'Loving with a boy, things they don't tell you', it went down really well and a lot of you seemed to enjoy it. I even let Aaron have a read, which of course got him thinking about all the things that he has, since living with a girl, discovered.
*Aaron* There are so many things that I have found out about Rachael and girls in general since moving in with're like a different breed.
*Rachael* He doesn't mean that offensively...Anyway, here is Aarons two cents into living with a girl..

When living with a girl there are so many moments when I just have to pinch myself, not in a aww cute way, but in a 'is this seriously happening' kind of way.

  • There are hair clips EVERYWHERE. I literally find them everywhere, in the shower, on the livingroom floor and in the bed! Seriously? Can you not just keep them in one place, because then you moan when you can't find any, and have to go out and buy more, when really there's a small stash in the plug hole!
  • Untidy doesn't even begin to cover it! Do you really need a hairdryer, straighteners and curling tongs all out at the same time? Surely if you've straightened your hair, having the curling irons out just defeats the whole purpose?!
  • Do you really need to cram as much crap into a bin, as humanly possible? Just because it's my job to take the bin out doesn't mean you can shove all your shopping bags in it, thinking I won't know you've been shopping if you hide the bags before I get home...Nice try love.
  • We finally get a room nice and warm, and Rachael decides to make a drink..does she shut the door on her way out of the room?? No does she hell, she lets all the cold air in! I now realise why her mum kept asking her if she was born in a barn, and to 'put the wood in the hole'..I thought she was shouting for no reason, now I know and I feel her pain.
  • Working at 7o'clock most days, it's always nice to have a lie in on my days off, but if Rachael is starting work at 7, the whole WORLD is starting work at 7! She puts the light on, crashes around the room, she does give me a subtle kiss goodbye and a whispered 'love you', not knowing that in my head i'm raging and already wide awake.
All this being said, there are some things that Rachael does that really put a smile on my face...

  • Little notes on our chalkboard notice board in the kitchen. Whether it just be a little drawing or a message for me, I love seeing them.
  • She actually lets me watch football more now we live together. Maybe that's her way of getting rid of me for 90+ minutes..probably, but I aint gonna' moan!
  • Rachael is all about nice, healthy, homemade food. I eat so much better now that she cooks for me. She's always browsing through blogs or cookbooks looking for new recipes. She looks after me, she does.
  • I love nothing more than knowing that after a crap day at work, I get to come home to her. Yes she may have her head in a book or earphones in watching youtube, but just knowing she's there. It's great.
Rachael, I love you..but if I ever find a hair clip in the bread bin again, you'll know about it :)

Fashion Wishlist

Friday, March 14, 2014

There are so many things that I am lusting over at the minute, especially when it comes to fashion and clothing.
Monochrome Zig Zag Shorts: I love these kind of shorts, they are really loose fitting and comfy. They look great in the summer with bare legs and sandals, or when the weather gets a little colder you can just throw on a pair of tights, a blazer some nice ankle boots and you're good to go.
Knitted Needle Punch Jumper: How cute is this jumper?! I love the effect, the grey and the pink is just lovely. I think this will be great to just throw on with a pair of denim shorts and sandals, or with a nice pair of skinny jeans and converse. It's so versatile and looks unbelievably cosy.
River Island:
Silver Glitter Block Heel Jelly Shoes: Simply because these shoes made my childhood. I always thought I was the coolest kid ever when I had these shoes on. I think they'll look great in Summer, and who doesn't want to be reminded of their youth and the good ol' days...*sob*.
Blue Tartan Buckle Trim Wrap Skirt: This skirt screams Clueless to me! I can just imagine wearing it when knee high socks and a matching blazer..which I wouldn't, but Cher would. I think this skirt is better for whilst the weather is still a bit nippy, and you can wear it with tights and ankle boots. This skirt won't be for everyone, but with a plain, collared shirt and black tights or knee high socks it won't be too in your face, just the right amount of it.
Black V Neck Cami Top: This is mainly on this wishlist because Aaron has JUST successfully burned a hole in my current one! Don't ask how, just know I wasn't impressed. I think everyone needs a black cami top in their wardrobe, they are perfect dressed up and down, and so easy to do so. I, or should I say Aaron, will definitely be buying on asap.

What are you currently lusting over?

Holiday Haul

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

As most of you know, I have just been away for a week abroad, to Tunisia. Now one of my favourite things about going on holiday is that at the airport there is a Duty Free, is it wrong to say that Duty Free may be my favourite shop ever?!....

I first headed to the MAC counter and already knew which lipstick I was heading for..Snob. I've heard so many good things about this lipstick and can't wait to start wearing it when I get home. Yes I save all my Duty Free purchases for when I land back home, no idea why... It's a lovely baby pink that isn't too in your face and is so pigmented!
YSL Rouge Volupte are possibly my favourite lipsticks ever, MAC being just a smidgen behind. They are so pigmented and glossy. The shade 29 Opera Rose is just stunning, It's a beautiful natural mid toned pink, that just glides onto your lips. I love it.

The Pandora counter just happened to catch my eye and there were so many lovely charms. I immediately fell in love with this gorgeous Fairy tale book. I am a complete disney/fairy tale fanatic, give me a Once upon a time & a Happily ever after, any day! I am also a complete bookworm, those who know me will know I never go anywhere without my kindle or a book. So this charm was just perfect for me.

Whilst on holiday me and my mum popped into a shopping centre that had a shop similiar to our Boots, they had a range of drugstore and high end products. I've heard so many things about the Bourjois Happy Light foundation and instantly popped it in my basket, Anna from Viviannadoesmakeup, i'm looking at you! I've never tried a nail varnish from MaX Factor but this gorgeous pastel/baby pink shade called Marshmallow *aww*, from them caught my eye. It'll be absolutely perfect for Spring/Summer and think it may be my go to colour for my summer holiday..

I love thing more than coming home from holiday with a couple of new purchases under my belt. Duty Free I salute you, and shall be back in June ;)

Fashion Haul

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Last Thursday me and Aaron went into Manchester and spent far too much money.. We made a full day of it, shopping, Wagamamas, cinema and TGI Fridays. I think it's more important to us now than ever before, to make time to go out for days or meals, now we live together. Date days/nights have always been important to us.

Our first stop was Lush, where I picked up two bath products and a face mask. I chose the Fluffy Egg Ballistic and the Creamy Candy Vanilla Bubble Bar, which smell amazing, I can't wait to use them. I'd also heard great things about the Cupcake face mask, which is for blemish prone skin. I really hope it'll help with these pesky spots I can't seem to get rid of!

I LOVE this t-shirt from New Look, its the perfect colour for Spring/Summer. For only £12.99, it was a complete bargain. As soon as I spotted it hung up, it went straight in my basket!

Topshop..the damage I could do in your stores. I went in and headed straight to the jeans as they were on my *must buy in Manchester* list. I love the Leigh jeans, they are so soft and look really nice on. I picked up these MOTO Acid Leigh Jeans link | and I love them. I usually opt for plain jeans in either blue or black, so I really like these as they're a little different to something I would usually go for. I also picked up this basic grey vest top link |. I thought it would do nicely when the weather gets a bit warmer (fingers crossed!).

I've been eyeing this cream top link | up for a while in River Island, it's a lovely, light fabric, with sheer shoulders and arms. I thought it would be perfect for the warmer weather as it's so light. I'll definitely be taking this on holiday with me in June. I think a simple, plain v neck is a staple for anyones wardrobe, you can either dress it down, or up with the right accessories.

Have you bought any clothes perfect for Spring? Which shops are you loving at the minute?

Monthly Favourites | February

Tuesday, March 04, 2014

I can't believe we are in March already, this year is going so fast!

At the start of the year, I made a promise to myself that I would have more makeup free days, not wearing it to work anymore and if i'm not going anywhere special. Last month there were only 2 products that really stood out to me. One being the Benefit Brow Zings Brow Shaper. | link | It's only since getting into blogging that i've paid more attention to my brows when it comes to applying makeup. I got the Brow Zings for Christmas and I love it. It really helps define my eyebrows.

The Topshop Lip Crayon in Powder Room* was given to me by a friend from work, who bought it for herself but felt the colour didn't suit her, and she knows I love my lip products, so she kindly donated it to me! It has a lovely creamy matte finish which can look slightly chalky, which is the case with most matte lipsticks. It is a pale pink with light peach tones running through it. They are really long lasting and are amazingly pigmented.

Burt's Bees Almond & Milk Hand Cream | link | has been a favourite of mine for a while, but it has seriously been a saviour during the colder months. It has a really thick texture, but once you apply a small amount to your hand, it blends in so easily. My favourite thing about this product has to be the smell. Think cherry bakewells...

I've owned the Lush Tea Tree Water | link | for AGES, but after a couple of weeks using it, it got pushed to the back of my skincare stash. I have recently rediscovered it and i'm so glad I give it another go! It feels so fresh on my face and is really helping my skin and the breakouts i've been suffering from.

Since having my hair cut and making a vow to take better care of it, i've been looking for products to help nourish my hair and keep it looking healthy. I received the Moroccan Oil* | link | in a event goody bag last year. When I first got it, I wasn't applying it right and it left my hair feeling greasy, but since cutting my hair, and just using the oil on the ends of my hair, it has worked wonders! My hair feels so soft and manageable.

What have you been loving this month?

Faking Natural Radiance.

Saturday, March 01, 2014

I love nothing more than makeup that gives you natural, radiant looking skin. When your skin looks fresh and vibrant with only using the help of a few products, it can really make a huge, yet subtle difference.

I start by using Bourjois Healthy Mix, it has a really light to medium coverage and leaves my skin glowing and looking very natural. This has to be my favourite foundation at the minute, it is really dewy and really does make my skin look 'healthy'.

I help to conceal my dark circles with just a tiny bit of YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch, using one click of this for each eye, blending it in with my finger. I love love love this concealer, it doesn't cake or stand out, which is the perfect concealer when you want to achieve a natural, oh yes I wake up like this everyday' kind of look.

Highlighters are a key part of my makeup routine, and whether wearing a full face of makeup or just using a few choice products, I always use one. My favourites are MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle and Topshop highlighter in Crescent Moon. They add such a subtle lovely glow to your skin, without making it too obvious that you are wearing them.

When going for a natural makeup look, I tend to only curl my lashes using these eyelash curlers from The Vintage Cosmetic Company. They give your lashes a lovely curl, opening your eyes without layering the mascara on.

On my lips i'll opt for an MUA lipstick, especially this one in a really natural, glossy pink shade. It adds a really subtle baby pink tint to your lips. It doesn't last ages on the lips but I don't mind reapplying it, for £1 you aint gonna expect much!

What are your go to products when it comes to looking radiant??!
