Favourite Summer Reads.

Friday, July 25, 2014

For those of you who don't know, I am a complete bookwork! I love nothing more than snuggling up with a good book and getting completely lost in it. I could easily read a book a day and here are a list of my top 5 for you to read this Summer.

1. A Game of Thrones//George R.R Martin: "A Song of Fire and Ice, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggles for the Iron Throne have begun. Several noble houses fight a civil war over who should be king".  I started watching the series a couple of months ago and was hooked instantly, so I knew I had to try the books..and they didn't disappoint! There isn't a single chapter in this book that isn't exciting, there's always something happening. I love it. I'm currently half way through the second one and it's even better!

2. The Keeper//Luke Delaney: "D.I Sean Corrigan is different to most cops. He's no psychic, but his own dark past has given him the ability to step into a crime scene and see it through the eyes of the offender. He understands what drives a person to commit murder, rape, arson - but sometimes his gift seem more like a burden. When the brutally body of a young woman is found in the woods, Corrigan and his team are on the case. But this is not the act of a one-time offender. They're on the trail of someone who has been taking women from their homes and keeping them captive before disposing of their bodies". I read this whilst in Crete last month and loved it. There's nothing better than a good mystery book that keeps you guessing at every turn! There were so many twists and turns in this book it's amazing.

3. Shopaholic & Baby//Sophie Kinsella: "Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) is pregnant! She couldn't be more overjoyed-especially since discovering that shopping cures morning sickness. Everything has got to be perfect for her baby: from the designer nursery . . . to the latest, coolest pram . . . to the celebrity, must-have obstetricia..But when the celebrity obstetrician turns out to be her husband Luke's glamorous, intellectual ex-girlfriend, Becky's perfect world starts to crumble. She's shopping for two ..but are there three in her marriage?" This is the fifth book in the shopaholic series, but it's actually the first one I read, so you don't really need to read the first 4 to know what's happening. I am a huge fan of Sophie Kinsella and have been reading her books for years, but her Shopaholic series is my favourite. If you've seen the film 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' starring Isla Fisher, it is based on the first novel. It's a really good chick-flick, that's easy to read and has you laughing out loud.

4. The Hunger Games//Suzanne Collins: "The nation of Panem, formed from a post-apocalyptic North America, is a country that consists of a wealthy Capitol region surrounded by 12 poorer districts. Early in its history, a rebellion led by a 13th district against the Capitol resulted in its destruction and the creation of an annual televised event known as the Hunger Games. In punishment, and as a reminder of the power and grace of the Capitol, each district must yield one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 through a lottery system to participate in the games. The 'tributes' are chosen during the annual Reaping and are forced to fight to the death, leaving only one survivor to claim victory." Everyone and their cat has heard of the Hunger Games multimedia franchise, whether that's ready the books or watching the films..(which are also amazing). They're full of action, with a bit of romance, drama and mystery. Everything you could want in a book.

5. The Fault in our Stars//John Green: "Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten." I've saved the best until last. This has been my favourite book for...over a year now, before the whole HYPE. It is....beautiful. I feel like whatever I write, won't do it justice. Just try it, and i'm sure you'll fall in love just as I did.

What have you been reading this Summer? What is your favourite book?

SEVENTEEN Phwoar Paint | Heavy Duty Under Eye Concealer | Review

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

I am a complete drugstore addict, but when it comes to brands, Seventeen is one that I hadn't tried anything from...until now...(Link)

One thing i'm not a fan of with this concealer is the name (Phwoar Paint..eugh) , however if you are after a budget friendly heavy duty concealer, this is one for you! For £5.49 the packaging isn't anything to sing about, although it does have a handy mirror for using on the go, but the concealer does the job perfectly.

It is often compared to Benefit's Erase Paste and Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer.

The Phwoar Paint only comes in two shades Fair and Medium, I opted for medium which has slight orange undertones, which help counteract the blue tone of dark circles.
The texture is quite thick and creamy, though really easy to blend in. I tend to get dry skin around my nose area, and this concealer can cling to it, so i'd recommend using a good hydrating primer before using it. It really wakes up the eye area, and leaves you looking refreshed and alert.
I've also used this on other pesky problem areas, e.g. blemishes and redness around my nose and it works amazingly well, so don't be put off by the name.

Have you tried anything from Seventeen? What's your favourite concealer?

Collective Haul | Boots, The Body Shop & Muji.

Sunday, July 20, 2014

There's has been a few products that i've been lusting over for a couple of weeks now, and when Aaron & I went to the Trafford Centre earlier this week, I figured it was the perfect time to pick them up!

First stop was The Body Shop where I wanted to pick up the All-In-One BB Cream (link) which is a white cream that transforms to suit your skin care. When you apply it to your skin, the pigment filled capsules burst, releasing the colour inside. I also picked up the Pink Grapefruit Body Sorbet (link), which smells incredible! It is a cool body moisturiser infused with energising pink grapefruit scent. When I got to the till, the sales assistant informed me that the sorbet is £8, but for an extra £4 you can get the matching shower gel and body mist! What a bargain. I'm not sure when the offer ends but i'd recommend you head into The Body Shop and take advantage!

Whilst browsing my youtube videos, i've seen a few youtubers talking about the new Sanctuary 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask (link) and it sounded right up my street. It is a purifying, deep cleansing facial mask to be used twice a week. It helps to open up the pores so the charcoal and Kaolin Clay can help draw out any impurities.

Every blogger and their dog has heard, or owns, some form of Muji storage. I've been after some for ages but never got round to picking any up. When I eventually picked some up from Selfridges, I opted for the 2 drawers with flip lid (link) which I think will help my makeup to be more accessible. I'm saving them for when we move into the new house, so I can have a nice clean, dressing table. I'm so excited!

I'll be sure to keep you updated on what I think, of all the products I bought!

What have you picked up lately?

Picnics & Rowing Boats.

Friday, July 18, 2014

Recently in England the weather has been beautiful! Usually we have rain and wind, but for the past few weeks it has been so warm and sunny. We definitely make the most of it.

Last week Aaron and & decided to go for a picnic at Heaton Park, it is a huge family park, owned my Manchester City Council. There's an animal centre, cafes and play areas. There's something for everyone.

The park is surrounded by huge fields, the perfect spot for a picnic. We stopped off at the supermarket and picked up some yummy picnic food; cocktail sausages, fresh fruit ect.
After stuffing our faces and doing a spot of sunbathing, we decided to go for a walk around the park. On the way round we spotted a lake that offered rowing boats! I've not been on a rowing boat for ages, so I was really excited. We stepped on and Aaron took charge of rowing...it was..interesting to say the least. Haha!

Aaron waited until we were drifting out, to say he didn't know HOW to row a boat, luckily he soon got the hang of it and we had an amazing time. At only £8.50 for up to 4 people, for 45 minutes..I think it's worth it! I tried taking over the rowing for a while but didn't realise how much upper body strength you need! It was definitely harder than it looked, and I was a complete fail.
On our way back out of the park, we stopped off for an ice-cream, the weather was SO HOT, it was exactly what we needed to cool down. I did end up getting a little bit sun burnt. For a change..

Aaron & I have been together for 6 years and I think it is so important to make time to still do things together, whether that be a picnic, cinemas or even cooking a meal together. It is so hard to get wrapped up in housework and working full time, that you forget to take time out and spend some quality time together. It is something we always try and do, I just hope we can stick to it!

Bomb Cosmetics | Cleansing Shower Butters

Thursday, July 17, 2014

Bomb Cosmetics Cleansing Shower Butters//£7.99 Link.

Last Christmas I visited York with my Mum and my Sister for some Christmas shopping. Whilst there we popped into a cute little shop called 'Bomb Cosmetics' which makes a range of bath and shower products. The shop smelt AMAZING, just like Lush. There were so many products I wanted to try; the shower gels and bath bombs..swoon!

The product that stood out to me the most was the cleansing shower butters. They come in a really good range of scents; Blackcurrant, Vanilla..and the one that I eventually (I stress the word eventually, we were in there for bloody ages!) decided on 'Mandarin & Orange' which smells..good enough to eat. It smells exactly like Oranges, so citrusy and fresh. The butter contains natural Shea Butter to moisturise and condition your skin. This product is also vegan friendly which is great!

When in the shower I take a blob of this..about a £2 coin size, in my hand and hold it under the running water. I then rub it all over my bod..(schexy) and it instantly melts. My skin feels so soft and nourished after using this and smells so good.
The whole bathroom smells of oranges after using this. Aaron always comments on it when he goes in..oops. He agrees it smells delicious.
We are actually booking York again for this Christmas so I will definitely be picking up more of these, in different scents, and maybe some of their bath bombs..and their soaps..maybe one of everything! Who knows.. :) It'd be rude to not try everything once.

What are you currently using in your shower?

Lusting Over..

Lusting Over.. by rachael-b92 featuring nars cosmetics

Since buying the house, beauty products have taken a back seat and i'm all about the cushions, wallpaper and book ends. However this week, i've been perusing the aisles of Boots and browsing Cult Beauty and falling back into my old ways...

Laura Mercier is a brand I have lusted over for ages and their body creme's sound amazing. They are slightly expensive so I may ask for these as a gift..Link.

I have never owned anything from Clinique! Whilst their skincare range is right up my street, their makeup has never done anything for me. However, these cheek pops look incredible! Link.

Nars is another brand i've never tried..shock horror..a beauty blogger who's never tried Nars..yes it happens! One product I have always wanted to try is the blush in Orgasm. So many bloggers and vloggers have hyped about this product, that I can't help but want it! Link.

This Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette is another product that i've heard so much about. It has a range of matte and shimmer shades which is great in a palette, there's something for everyone. Link.

When it comes to Sanctuary, it just screams spa, luxury and relaxation. I have used their shower gels, bubble baths and body lotions which I love, but their product that i'm most excited to use is their detox mask! I've heard quite a few bloggers rave about this mask and it sounds right up my street. Link.

The Skort of all Skorts.

Saturday, July 12, 2014

The skort was first worn in the 60's by golfers who wanted 'the freedom of shorts with the soft lines of a skirt" and soon became a favourite for female professional golf tour.
It was Zara who actually the skort back this Summer as part of their Nineties sport-luxe, although the high-street is packed with them! I actually picked this one up from River Island and I love it!

The best thing about skorts is that you can wear a short skirt, but still keep your modesty in tact with the comfy shorts underneath. Knickers flashing? Surprise gust of wind? No need to worry, the skort has got it covered..literally. I love the tulip shape of this skirt, as it's so flattering. It keeps your thighs covered and worn high waisted it tucks in/hides your stomach, both areas which i'm not a fan of.

I wore this high waisted with a white scalloped crop top from Topshop, and tan sandals.

Have you worn a skort this year?

Easy on the Eyes.

Friday, July 11, 2014

I'm not one of those girls who likes to spend a huge amount of time on their makeup, especially the eyes. I'm all for a quick, easy products that take 5 minutes to do, yet still give you that defined, i've made an effort when really I haven't, look.

If i'm just nipping to town or for lunch I don't really bother with eyeshadows, I only tend to use them when i'm going for an evening meal, or a night out with the girls.
The shadows that I always reach for are either the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadow or the Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Sticks, both are quick to apply and the pigmentation is great. You only need to apply one quick layer and blend them in to get an instant colour on your lids.

For eyeliner it has to be the Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black, and it is the perfect eyeliner for a really dramatic eye. It is so pigmented that you only need to press on lightly to get a jet black line. I tend to apply this in the corner of my eye, then blend out along my lash line.

Benefit They're Real is my favourite mascara by far, it gives instant curl and length to your lashes whilst really thickening them at the same time. It lasts the whole day and would be a real bugger to remove, if it wasn't for my trusty Bioderma. The thing I love most about this mascara is that it doesn't clump on my lashes at all which I have found with a lot of other mascaras and it really puts me off.

It's only recently that i've bothered filling in my eyebrows, shock horror I know, but I never found a product that I loved enough. Until Aaron bought me the Benefit Brow Zings and I am in love. He got it me for Christmas and i've used it almost everyday since. It really defines my eyebrows and fills them in perfectly, without making them look like huge caterpillars on my face. Since when did people think that that was a good look?

Are you an eye makeup kinda' gal? Or, like me, do you love a product that gives amazing results in 5 minutes?

Marc Jacobs | Daisy Dream

Marc Jacobs | Daisy Dream Link.

I am a HUGE fan of the Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume, so when I caught a whiff (like what I did there, huh huh?) that there was a new perfume in the making I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! I picked this up in Duty Free before heading to Crete, so saved myself some pennies that way. I got it for £56.00, whereas on the highstreet it is £69.50!

First of all can we just take a moment to appreciate the absolute GORGEOUSNESS of the packaging! Marc Jacobs never disappoints with their packaging, but this one has to be my favourite by far. The lovely daisys, the gold detailing and the shape of the bottle is just *swoon*. It is currently taking pride place on my dressing table and looks so classic and stunning.

The smell is another bonus, it is the perfect balance between a fruity and floral scent, with top notes of blackberry, pear and fresh grapefruit. The heart is filled with notes of lychee, blue wisteria and feminine jasmine. The base notes are filled with musks, coconut water and white woods. Even the ingredients sound dreamy!

Daisy Dream isn't available on the highstreet until the 15th July, it is exclusive at Duty Free right now so if you are off on holiday anytime soon, you should definitely pick it up.

Which is your favourite Marc Jacobs perfume?

London Adventure.

Monday, July 07, 2014

Hi Guys!
Long time no..speak? I'm back after a much needed blogging break. I did intend to start blogging again about 2 weeks ago but my internet broke, sods law. Anyhoo, I am now back, ready and raring!

I have just got back from a lovely weekend in London with my mum. We got the coach down at 6a.m on Saturday, and came back on Sunday late afternoon. We arrived in Haymarket just after 12o'clock and went for some lunch at Byron Burger..Oh Ma Gawd, the best burger i've ever had..before heading to Her Majesty's Theatre to watch The Phantom of the Opera which I had never seen before so I was incredibly excited. I had no idea what an amazing show it was going to be! It was a slightly darker musical than i'm used to, hello Lion King, Wicked..but was incredible none the less. I couldn't recommend the show enough.

We then headed to our hotel just inside of Essex for a lovely meal, a couple of drinks and an early night!

We woke up well rested and heading into London to spend the afternoon in Covent Garden, my favourite part of London! I love the small quirky shops and the atmosphere. We did a little bit of shopping, before stopping for some fresh juice at the Covent Garden Kitchen, it was delicious and really perked us up for an afternoon of shopping! We went in..quite a few shops..my favourite (as always) being the Moomin Shop. It reminds me so much of my childhood and I just love it. My mum hadn't been in before so I was excited to show her.
We knew, before starting our weekend, that we were going to have dinner at Jamie Oliver's restaurant Union Jacks and the que to get in was so worth it. I had a Pimms and my mum enjoyed a Gin Fizz which I tried, and they both tasted amazing. We then tucked into a feast on Fish & Chips (Mums) and Bangers & Mash (mine) which was unbelievably good. I will definitely be going there again on my next visit to the city.

I had such an amazing weekend, and it was lovely to spend some quality time with my Mum.
What is your favourite thing to do in London? Where would you recommend?
