The Autumn Edit.

Monday, September 29, 2014

As we are heading into October and Autumn is well underway, I thought I would give you a rundown of all my favourite ways to update my makeup bag for the new season.

Summer and Spring is all about achieving skin that is dewy and glowy, whereas in the Winter for me, it's time to bring out the matte foundation. I picked up Rimmel Match Perfection | SPF 18 last Autumn and I love it. It is matte without being cakey, it still looks really natural.

In Summer the only blush I wear is one with a cream formula. I feel they look the best and last the longest during the warmer months. However during A/W I revert back to my much loved powder blushers, particularly this one from MAC in the shade Stay Pretty. It is part of the Pro Longwear blush and is described as a 'Light, Bright Blue Pink' which it definitely is. I only apply the tiniest amount of this to the apple of my cheeks, just to give me a hint of colour.

During A/W I go a little more daring with my eyes, tending to use my Mac Autumn palette, that I put together. They are all coppery, red and purple shades. Perfect for the winter months. I have a full post on the palette and all it's shades here.

My favourite way to update my makeup during A/W is definitely the products I put on my lips. I would wear berry and red lips all year if I could. I feel like I suit dark shades quite well, as I have dark hair and a pale complexion. My favourite at the minute is Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Raplumsel. It's a gorgeous glossy, berry colour. Other shades quite similar is the Revlon Lip Butters in Raspberry Pie and Lollipop. Both gorgeous berry shades, whereas Lollipop is a little more pink.
My all time favourite lip product for Autumn and Winter is Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Glam Plum Fulham. Which is a very deep plum shade.
Red lips is one of my favourite lip looks, and a recent purchase that has fast become my go to red lip product is Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Hot Pepper, a gorgeous matte red. It's so easy to apply and feels really nourishing on the lips, even though it is seriously matte, it isn't cakey at all. I'm definitely going to be picking up more shades from the range.

Are you a fan of Autumn/Winter? How do you update your makeup bag?

Fight Cancer With Fashion| Blogger Event.

Saturday, September 27, 2014

Last Wednesday I was lucky enough to attend the #FightCancerWithFasion charity event, hosted by Branded Lab PR. Myself and lots of other Manchester bloggers spent the evening shopping, eating cupcakes and drinking delicious cocktails. What more could a girl need/want?!

There was a huge clothes sale featuring lots of great brands with prices ranging from £1-£5, all proceeds going to charity! I couldn't think of a better reason to buy clothes. Rachel and myself picked up quite a lot between us..oops.

There was also a makeup artist there to show us some tips & tricks and samples of the Smug Drinks, which are all natural, health boosting drinks and they were delicious! We were also lucky enough to receive a goody bag each, featuring a gift voucher, a lip balm, sweets and also a full sized bottle of Smug Drinks in Orange & Passionfruit.
I had a lovely time and we raised a total of £416.13! Well done guys :)

Soap & Glory | One Heck of A Blot.

Friday, September 26, 2014

I am a huge fan of the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, but I have been using it for that long, that I just fancied a change. I'm also really annoyed with it's packaging, the flimsy plastic lid is just a no go, i'm sick of it falling off or snapping! I had heard great things about the Soap & Glory powder, One Heck Of A Blot so decided to pick it up on a trip to Boots a couple of months ago, and give it a go.

One Heck Of A Blot is a finely milled, translucent mattifying powder which is housed in retro looking, black plastic packaging. However this plastic is far from flimsy! It is really sturdy and durable, which is good for carrying on a daily basis in the bottom of your bag. It also comes with a powder puff inside, which i'm never a fan off so don't tend to use, and a large mirror in the lid which is great for touching up on the go.

The pan is embossed with the word 'Powder' and a few stars which I love! it just adds that bit of something special to what could be a pretty boring looking piece of makeup, although it disappears after a few uses. In the pan it looks ghostly white, with a slight yellow undertone, once applied it suits all skin types and tones.

I apply this with a normal powder brush and apply it on my chin and t-zone first, before dusting a slight amount over my whole face. You could go very heavy handed with this product, and it would still look untraceable. It leaves a lovely velvety, smooth finish to the skin which is always a bonus.
I've recently been suffering from a little bit of dry skin along my nose and on my forehead, and the powder doesn't cling to it at all!

I have to say that this has fast become my favourite powder!! Yes it is a little more pricey that the Rimmel version but you definitely get better quality. Soap & Glory claim that the One Heck Of A Blot is 'Amazing, Addictive and Invisible'..I couldn't agree more!

Have you tried any makeup products from Soap & Glory? What is your favourite?

A Day In Chester.

Thursday, September 25, 2014

It isn't very often that Aaron and I get a day off together, so when we do, we like to make the most of it. At the beginning of the month, we decided to go to Chester for the day. Neither of us had been before, so we were really excited to see what the city had to offer!

We arrived at Chester at about 11o'clock, parking at the racecourse car park, which is only about a 5 minute walk from the city centre. We had a look around a few shops, before heading over to Grosvenor Park.

Grosvenor Park is beautiful! It is a typical Victorian layout with sweeping lawns, statues and ornamental shrub beds. It was busting with colour and people. Another thing about this park is that there are squirrels..EVERYWHERE. I even managed to get a few up close pictures of them, so cute.

Past the park is the canal, which was yet again, beautiful. There were people enjoying boat rides and rowing boats along the water and all the cafes along the water side were filled with people.
I would love to buy a house overlooking the canal, they were gorgeous and it would be lovely to sit out in your garden and enjoy the view.

We decided to have a look on Trip Adviser for recommendations on where to eat, and one restaurant that was constantly raved about was Hickory's Smokehouse, an authentic American barbeque. When we arrived we were told we would have to wait a table, but that we could sit at the bar and enjoy a drink whilst we waited..ermm..yes please!!
There were so many amazing choices to chose from that I really struggled to decide. I was swaying towards the alcoholic slushies, although it didn't state which alcohol or flavoured slush it was! The lovely barman told me it was watermelon slushie, with In-house ginger infused Buffalo Trace bourbon and vanilla. I was a little wary at first, but he kindly offered me a sample, and oh ma gawww, it was amazing!!!! It was so refreshing and delicious. Aaron decided to opt for a Jack Daniels Honey and Ginger Beer, which he said was nice but strong!

We were quickly seated at our table, where we were given popcorn and a giant glass bottle of water to enjoy whilst we waited for our food to arrive. I had the Southwest chicken skewers in smokey bbq sauce, with fries and slaw. Whilst Aaron had the half slab of Kansas Style 'BBQ Glazed' Spare Ribs. Both were amazingly yummy, and we both agreed we would definitely be returning to Hickory's,

Leaving with our bellies full, we wandered back into town having a look in a few more shops before decided to head on home. Chester is definitely one of the most beautiful and peaceful cities I the UK that I have been to. It had a range of high street and high end shops, lots of bars, cafes and restaurants. I think next time we visit Chester we will book a hotel and stay overnight!

Have you been to Chester? What did you think of the city?

Mac Autumn Quad.

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

As I am writing this, it is currently pissing it down..Autumn is well and truly upon us. Part of me is sad to see Summer go, but the other half is excited for the new season! One of my favourite things about Autumn is the way I change up my makeup. I don't know why but I feel a little more adventurous during the colder months, going a little more daring with the eyes and lips. I replace all my Summer lipsticks with Berries and reds, and bring out the matte foundations. For the eyes it is all about my Mac quad. I put this palette together myself over a couple of months and it is definitely Autumn/Winter inspired.

In the quad is;
  • Cranberry- A deep plum/burgundy shade. I love using this for a smokey eye, especially with Sketch. With this, less is definitely more, as too much can make you look like you've been sucker punched in the eye.
  • Sketch- This is another burgundy shade, with slight red shimmer. The shimmer is just the right amount, and isn't too obvious. I wear this a lot with Cranberry, usually using this shade in the crease of the eye.
  • Sable- Sable is such a gorgeous shade! It's a browny bronze colour with slight red shimmer. It looks great with a smokey eye, or on it's own it is a lovely everyday shade. It is amazingly pigmented, so I tend to apply a little at a time, building it up if I wish to do so.
  • Star Violet- Yet another burgundy shade, although this time it has a slight pink shimmer through it. It's quite a similar shade to Cranberry, but less dramatic.
I am a huge fan of Mac eyeshadows, they are so pigmented, long lasting and easy to blend. They literally feel like velvet. I have another empty quad palette and I can't wait to fill that up. Maybe with more everyday, all year round shades..

Have you got a Mac palette? What is your favourite Mac eyeshadow?

The Body Shop Haul.

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

If you saw yesterdays post, found here, you will know that a couple of weeks ago I attended a Body Shop blogger event and took huge advantage of the 40% off we were lucky enough to receive.

I picked up a range of skincare and makeup, as I wanted to try a little bit of everything The Body Shop has to offer.

I am a sucker for trying new skincare and the first product I knew I wanted to pick up was the Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter. I've never tried a solid cleanser before so I was really intrigued. I've used this a couple of times and it leaves my skin feeling so soft. The only thing is, I haven't used this to take off makeup, which it claims to do so i'll be sure to do a full review when I have given it a fair go. I also picked up the miniature eye makeup remover from the Camomile range.
My skin has been playing havoc recently, I think the stress of moving and other 'lady troubles' has taken its toll on my skin. So I was on the hunt for a good treatment to add to my skincare that would, hopefully, help. I decided on the Tea Tree Facial Toner, which I have heard great things about. I've used Tea Tree skincare before back in my teenage years, and it always worked well. So i'm hoping it will work wonders for my skin, now.
One range that I really wanted to try was Vitamin E, particularly their Aqua Boost Sorbet. This is best described as a matte-gel, the term Sorbet describes it perfectly. I tried this on the back of my hand in the shop and it felt so cool and refreshing. My skin instantly looked more hydrated and perky.
I only picked up one body product, which was the Mango Body Sorbet. I already own Pink Grapefruit and I LOVE it. These smell incredible and feel so nice on the skin. I decided to opt for the Mango scent as it smells really fresh and delicious!
I picked up two lip balms, the Raspberry Born Lippy and the Wild Argan Oil Solid Oil Lip Balm. The raspberry one smells amazing and the Argain Oil Balm leaves my lips feeling amazingly soft and nourished.

I went out for a night out with the girls a couple of weeks ago, I wore heels..I was out for a good few feet are destroyed. Sob. I get really dry skin on my big toes and on the balls of my feet, after wearing heels. So when I spotted the Peppermint range, it was exactly what I needed. I decided to pick up the Smoothing Pumice Foot Scrub and a new foot file

I only picked up two makeup items..a lipstick (what are the chances?!!) and was kindly gifted a new nail varnish to try.
As soon as I saw the shiny silver packaging and the gorgeous colour range, I knew I had to pick up one of the Colour Crush Shine Lipsticks. Myself and Rachel both picked up the shade 15 Fuschia Flirt. A gorgeous warm pink/coral shade.
As stated in yesterdays post we were shown the new Colour Crush nail varnish range, which is due for release on the 6th October. We were kindly allowed to pick one shade of our choice to take home and try. I opted for Gorgeous Grey* which is a cool toned stone grey. I decided to pick a colour which would be more suitable for the Autumn/Winter months so I could start wearing it asap.

The Body Shop Blogger Event.

Monday, September 22, 2014

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a blogger event at The Body Shop in Preston, hosted by the lovely Rachelle. I've never been to an event there before and was really excited, as I love the brand! The event was mainly to have a look at the new launches- the Wild Argan Oil range that is available now and the new Colour Crush nail varnishes, which aren't due to be released until the 6th October.

I met up with Rachel on the train and we made our way to Preston. We had a catch up and did a little bit of shopping, before heading over to The Body Shop, where we were greeted with delicious treats and Bucks Fizz..YUM.

We were first shown the new Wild Argan Oil range, Rachelle gave us a brief description of all the products. There are products ranging from lip balms to body scrubs, so there really is something in the range for everyone.

We were then introduced to the Colour Crush nail varnish collection- which I was super excited about. They come in a range of 24 gorgeous colours and are 100% vegan with no additives; they retail at £5, which is quite a bargain. We were lucky enough to be gifted one varnish of our choice, I chose Gorgeous Grey..which if you didn't guess from the a gorgeous grey. Funnily enough :)

We were then given free roam of the shop, to try the products and pick up anything we wanted to purchase, we were lucky enough to receive 40% off so I couldn't help but pick up a few new treats. Oops.

I have done a separate haul post, which will go live tomorrow so be sure to check back then, to see what I popped in my basket. It ranges from skincare to lipstick so there is a little bit of summin summin for everyone!

I had a lovely day and can't thank the girls at The Body Shop enough, i'll definitely be attending any future events that they host.

What I am currently burning..

Friday, September 19, 2014

Hello i'm Rachael and I am addicted to candles...
I got the Shearers Fruit Candle off my mum for my birthday back in June, but didn't want to burn it until we were in the new house, which we now are HOORAY. As soon as the living room was painted and unpacked one of the first things I did, after setting up Netflix OBVS, was set up my stash of candles.

The first thing I noticed about the candle was the frosted glass jar and silver embossed lid that came with it. It's so lovely and looks really classy. It looks so nice burning away on my sideboard.

The ripe Mango scent smells incredible, it smells like Summer in a candle (which we really need right now, as Autumn creeps upon us gradually).

One thing I always look for, or hope for, is a candle where the smells has amazing lasting power. Which this Shearers Candle really does. You walk in a room and the lovely fruity tropic smell hits you. Even after the candle has been blown out, you can still smell it afterwards.
I will definitely be getting another one of these candles in the future, and I also really want to try the diffuser!! Shearers candles are definitely a candle brand to take notice of.

What is your favourite candle at the minute? Have you ever had a Shearers candle?

Hydrating Heroes.

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

One thing I really suffer with is dry skin. Particularly on my forehead, around my nose and on my feet. If any product claims to be hydrating or moisturising i'm all over it! So whether you suffer from dry skin on your body, face, feet or is a list of my favourite products that will be right up your street!

Soap & Glory Heel GeniusLink | I've raved about this product so many times! This has completely helped banish dry skin from my feet. I apply this after a shower, then put thick bed socks on and leave them on overnight. When you take your socks off in the morning your feet feel and look so amazingly soft it's ridiculous!!

Garnier Intensive 7 Days Smoothing Nourishing LotionLink | I've been using this product for the last 2 months and I love it! My skin feels so soft after using it. I don't agree with the whole '7 days' claim, but it does leave my skin soft all day. I get dry skin on the backs of my arms, and it has made a huge difference.

Nuxe Reve de MielLink | This is my holy grail lip balm, I honestly bloody love it! It has worked absolute wonders on my lips. It's quite thick, so I usually apply this before bed and when I wake up it has completely sunk in, and my lips feel super soft and hydrated.

Avene Soothing Hydrating Serum*Link | When the lovely people at Escentual asked for bloggers to review the Avene Hydrating Serum, I instantly put my name down and was lucky enough to be chosen. The word hydrating just screamed out to me and I couldn't wait to give it a go. The product feels AMAZING on my skin, so cool and refreshing. It sinks in almost straight away and doesn't leave any tackiness behind. It calms any redness on my face, down and leaves my skin feel so soft. It is an essential in my morning skincare.

Do you suffer from dry skin? What are your go to products?

As much as I love blogging, there is nothing I love more than reading other peoples. Following their current favourites, their recipes or their travels..I love a whole range of blogs. I thought I would share my current favourite bloggers with you guys, and hopefully spread a little love.

Becky's blog is just..*swoon*. I've been following her for a while now, but have recently fallen back in love with her blog. Her layout is stunning, her pictures are perfect and her miniature dachshund Oscar is just..gorgeous.

Amazing hair? Check. Incredible food posts? Check. Rosie's blog has it all. Her travels all around the globe also have me insanely jealous, but her blog posts are that in depth I feel like i'm there with her, so i'll let her off.

This blog is every beauty bloggers dream. She blogs about anything from monthly favourites, dupes and daily beauty reports. Anything she raves about, I add to my mental wishlist.

I wish that I could take outfit pictures as good as Helen, I really do! Her style is on point, her pictures are crystal clear and her reviews are so well written.

Bonjour Luce is one of my most recent blogging discoveries and thank heavens for that! Her layout is so clean and her photos are amazing. I know any product that Lucy raves about, i'll love it!

What blogs are you loving? If you could only read one blog for a week, whose would it be?
